Post-Game Content
Congratulations, bounty hunter! You've successfully purged the B.S.L. station of the SA-X and the X Parasites. But your mission isn't truly over until you've achieved 100% item completion. This section will guide you through collecting every last Energy Tank, Missile Tank, and Power Bomb Tank, ensuring Samus is at her absolute peak. While the game doesn't feature a traditional "New Game+" mode, collecting all items is the ultimate post-game challenge and unlocks the best ending sequence.
Achieving 100% Item Completion
The primary goal after defeating the Omega Metroid is to backtrack and collect any items you missed during your initial playthrough. The game's map system is your best friend here, as it highlights rooms with uncollected items. Remember, some areas are only accessible with late-game abilities or by utilizing advanced techniques.
General Strategies for Item Hunting
- Map Review: Open your map frequently (Select button). Any room that still has a gray outline (instead of solid blue) indicates an uncollected item. Zoom in to identify the exact location if possible.
- Ability Checklist: Before heading into a sector, consider which abilities you have. Many items require specific upgrades like the
Screw Attack ,Space Jump ,Power Bombs , or even theDiffusion Missile to access. - Hidden Passages: Always be on the lookout for destructible blocks. Shoot every suspicious wall, floor, and ceiling. The
Charge Beam andDiffusion Missile are excellent for revealing these. - Shinespark Puzzles: Several items are locked behind intricate Shinespark sequences. Practice your Shinespark technique (run, crouch, jump) and learn to store the charge.
- Power Bomb Usage: Don't be shy about using
Power Bombs . They are often the key to revealing hidden passages, especially in larger rooms or areas with many destructible blocks.
Sector-Specific Item Collection
Main Deck
The Main Deck, while seemingly straightforward, holds a few tricky items. Focus on areas that were initially locked down or required specific abilities to navigate.
- Missile Tank: In the large vertical shaft near the Operations Room, use the
Space Jump to reach a high ledge on the right. There's a hidden passage behind a block that requires aPower Bomb to reveal. - Energy Tank: After the initial encounter with the SA-X in the Main Deck, revisit the room where you first saw it. A hidden path on the ceiling, accessible with
Space Jump , leads to this tank.
Sector 1 (SRX)
This jungle-themed sector has several items hidden within its lush environments and water-filled passages.
- Power Bomb Tank: In the large room with the plant-like enemies and water, look for a section of the ceiling that can be destroyed with a
Power Bomb . This leads to a small chamber containing the tank. - Missile Tank: Near the save room in the western part of the sector, there's a small alcove above the water. Use the
Space Jump to reach it, then destroy a hidden block to find the tank.
Sector 2 (TRO)
The fiery Sector 2 often requires precise platforming and careful use of your beam weapons.
- Energy Tank: In the room with the lava pits and rising platforms, there's a hidden passage in the top-right corner. A well-timed
Shinespark across the lava will allow you to reach it. Alternatively, use theSpace Jump to carefully navigate. - Missile Tank: After acquiring the
Screw Attack , revisit the vertical shaft with the large, indestructible blocks. There's a section of the wall that can now be destroyed, revealing a hidden room.
Sector 3 (PYR)
This cold, icy sector often involves breaking ice blocks and navigating slippery surfaces.
- Power Bomb Tank: In the large room with the frozen enemies and destructible ice blocks, look for a section of the floor that can be destroyed by a
Power Bomb . This leads to a submerged area with the tank. - Missile Tank: Near the data room where you acquired the
Diffusion Missile , there's a series of ice blocks. Use theDiffusion Missile to clear a path to a hidden alcove containing the tank.
Sector 4 (AQA)
The aquatic sector often requires careful movement through water and dealing with water-based enemies.
- Energy Tank: In the long, horizontal underwater passage with the strong currents, look for a hidden passage above the main path. A
Power Bomb will reveal it, allowing you to swim against the current into a small room. - Missile Tank: In the room with the large, rotating fan-like structures, there's a destructible block on the ceiling near the entrance. Use a
Power Bomb to reveal a path to the tank.
Sector 5 (ARC)
The arctic sector, similar to Sector 3, features ice and cold environments, but with different enemy types and environmental puzzles.
- Power Bomb Tank: In the room with the large, frozen creature in the background, look for a section of the wall that can be destroyed with a
Power Bomb . This leads to a small, hidden chamber. - Missile Tank: After acquiring the
Screw Attack , revisit the vertical shaft with the frozen platforms. There's a section of the wall that can beScrew Attacked to reveal a hidden path.
Sector 6 (WST)
The final biological research sector often has challenging enemy encounters and complex layouts.
- Energy Tank: In the room with the multiple small platforms and flying enemies, look for a hidden passage on the left wall, accessible with a
Power Bomb . This leads to a small area with the tank. - Missile Tank: Near the save room in the eastern part of the sector, there's a series of destructible blocks on the floor. Use a
Power Bomb to clear a path to a hidden area below.
By meticulously checking your map and utilizing all of Samus's acquired abilities, you will eventually uncover every hidden item. Achieving 100% completion not only provides a satisfying sense of accomplishment but also grants you the best possible ending image, a true reward for a dedicated bounty hunter!
