Welcome to Sector 4, the aquatic research facility, known as AQA. This sector is characterized by its pervasive flooded corridors and specialized water-dwelling X-Parasites. Your primary objective here is to restore power to the sector, acquire crucial upgrades, and eventually confront the formidable aquatic life forms that guard its depths.

Initial Exploration & Power Restoration

Upon entering Sector 4 from the Main Deck, you'll immediately notice the pervasive water. Your mobility will be significantly reduced without the Gravity Suit, so be prepared for slower movement and strategic combat. This initial phase focuses on navigating the submerged areas and reactivating the sector's power grid.

• From the Navigation Room: Proceed left. You'll immediately enter a series of flooded rooms.
• Navigating Submerged Areas: Move through the initial submerged sections. You'll encounter new aquatic enemies such as the Evir (small, fast fish-like creatures that dart through the water) and Zebbo (larger, slow-moving, armored X-Parasites that often float near the surface).
• Vertical Shaft Ascent: Continue left until you reach a vertical shaft. Ascend this shaft. You may need to utilize your Morph Ball's jump ability or the Space Jump/High Jump if you have acquired them, to reach higher ledges and navigate around obstacles.
• Data Room Discovery: At the top of the vertical shaft, head right. You'll find a Data Room. Download the data, which will reveal the location of the Sector 4 Control Unit and hint at the necessity of restoring power to drain certain areas.
• Activating the Control Unit: Return to the vertical shaft and descend. Head left again, and you'll soon reach the Sector 4 Control Unit. Interact with it to restore power to the sector. This action will strategically drain some of the water in specific areas, making subsequent navigation significantly easier and revealing new paths.

Path to the Diffusion Missile

With power restored and water levels altered, new paths become accessible. Your next critical objective is to acquire the powerful Diffusion Missile upgrade, which will be essential for overcoming obstacles and future boss encounters.

• Backtracking Through Drained Areas: After restoring power, backtrack right through the now partially drained areas. You'll notice that some previously submerged doors are now accessible, and your movement speed will be less impeded.
• Navigating the Multi-Level Room: Continue right, past the vertical shaft you used earlier. You'll enter a large, multi-level room that has been affected by the water drainage.
• Descending to New Paths: Descend to the bottom of this multi-level room. You'll find a door leading to a new area on the right.
• Encountering New Challenges: Proceed through this door. You'll enter a series of rooms with more aquatic enemies. Keep a keen eye out for hidden blocks that can be destroyed with your missiles or by charging your Beam Weapon.
• Acquiring the Diffusion Missile: Eventually, you'll reach a room with a large, central structure. This is where you'll find the Diffusion Missile upgrade. Collect it immediately. This powerful upgrade allows your missiles to explode with a wider radius, affecting multiple enemies or destructible blocks simultaneously. It's particularly effective against clustered enemies or block formations.

Confronting the Yakuza (Boss Battle)

The Diffusion Missile is not just a utility upgrade; it's a crucial weapon for the upcoming boss encounter. The Yakuza, a formidable aquatic X-Parasite, guards the path to further progress in Sector 4.

• Opening the Path: After acquiring the Diffusion Missile, backtrack a few rooms. You'll notice a previously inaccessible path that requires the Diffusion Missile to clear. Look for missile blocks arranged in a pattern that suggests a wider blast radius is needed.
• Utilizing Diffusion Missile: Use a Diffusion Missile to destroy the block formations blocking your path. The wide explosion will clear multiple blocks with a single shot.
• Entering the Boss Chamber: Continue through the newly opened path. You'll soon arrive at a large, open chamber. Prepare for battle.

Boss Battle: Yakuza Strategy

The Yakuza is a massive, aquatic X-Parasite resembling a giant anglerfish. It primarily attacks by lunging at Samus and firing concentrated projectiles. Its core is protected by a tough outer shell, but it exposes a vulnerable point during its attacks.

• Yakuza Attack Patterns:
  • Lunge Attack: The Yakuza will often charge horizontally across the screen, attempting to ram Samus.
  • Projectile Barrage: It will open its mouth and fire a spread of projectiles, sometimes accompanied by smaller X-Parasites.
  • Ceiling Drop: Occasionally, it will retreat to the ceiling and attempt to drop down on Samus.
• Recommended Loadout:
  • Weapon: Charge Beam and Diffusion Missiles.
  • Movement: Morph Ball for evasion, Space Jump/High Jump for vertical dodging.
• Strategy:
  1. Target the Core: The Yakuza's primary weak point is its exposed core, which becomes visible when it opens its mouth to attack or when it's stunned.
  2. Diffusion Missile Advantage: When the Yakuza opens its mouth, fire a Diffusion Missile directly into it. The wide blast radius makes it easier to hit the vulnerable core, even if your aim isn't perfectly precise. Regular missiles also work but require more direct hits.
  3. Evading Lunges: When the Yakuza charges horizontally, jump over it using your Space Jump or High Jump. If you're quick, you can also use the Morph Ball to roll under its body.
  4. Dodging Projectiles: The projectiles can be destroyed with your Charge Beam. Focus on dodging the main body and then clearing the projectiles if they become too dense.
  5. Patience is Key: The Yakuza has a significant health pool. Be patient, focus on hitting its weak point with Diffusion Missiles, and prioritize evasion to conserve health.
  6. Absorb the X: After defeating the Yakuza, absorb the large X-Parasite it leaves behind. This will restore a significant amount of health and energy, preparing you for the next phase.
• Common Pitfalls:
  • Getting cornered by its lunge attacks.
  • Taking too much damage from its projectile barrages.
  • Not utilizing the Diffusion Missile's wide blast effectively.

Collecting the Varia Suit

The Yakuza's defeat not only clears the path but also grants you access to one of the most vital suit upgrades in the game: the Varia Suit. This upgrade is indispensable for surviving the harsher environments and tougher enemies in later sectors.

• Proceeding After Battle: After the Yakuza battle, a door will open. Proceed through it.
• Varia Suit Acquisition: You'll enter a small chamber containing the Varia Suit upgrade. Collect it immediately.
• Varia Suit Benefits: The Varia Suit significantly reduces damage taken from environmental hazards (such as extreme heat or cold, which you will encounter in other sectors) and enemy attacks. It's a crucial upgrade that will make subsequent areas much more manageable.

Exiting Sector 4

With the Varia Suit in hand and the Yakuza defeated, your objectives in Sector 4 are complete for now. It's time to report back to the Main Deck for your next set of instructions.

• Backtracking: From the Varia Suit room, backtrack through the Yakuza's chamber and continue retracing your steps through Sector 4.
• Heading to the Navigation Room: Make your way towards the Navigation Room where you initially entered the sector.
• Reporting In: Use the Navigation Room to save your progress and receive your next objective from the computer. The Main Computer will likely have new information regarding the X-Parasite threat and your next destination.
