Acquire the Bombs
The Bombs are an essential early-game upgrade that will allow Samus to destroy cracked blocks and open new pathways. Obtaining them is one of your first major objectives after landing on SR388.
Navigating to the Bomb Location
- From the Landing Site: After exiting your ship, head right. You'll encounter a few small, jumping enemies. Continue moving right until you reach a vertical shaft.
- Descending the Shaft: Carefully descend this shaft. There will be some flying creatures that move in predictable patterns; time your descent to avoid them or dispatch them with your Power Beam.
- First Horizontal Passage: At the bottom of the first shaft, head right again. You'll enter a horizontal passage with more enemies. Keep moving right.
- Second Vertical Shaft: You will soon reach another vertical shaft. This one is typically shorter than the first. Descend it.
- The Bomb Chamber Entrance: At the bottom of this second shaft, move right once more. You'll enter a small, enclosed room. This is the antechamber to the Bombs.
Collecting the Bombs
Once you are in the small room at the end of the path described above, you will see the Bomb upgrade resting on a pedestal in the center of the room. Simply walk over to it to collect it. Upon collection, Samus will glow briefly, indicating the new ability has been acquired.
Utilizing Your New Ability
With the Bombs, you can now:
- Destroy Cracked Blocks: Any block with visible cracks can now be destroyed by laying a Bomb next to it. This is crucial for opening up new paths and finding hidden areas.
- Access Morph Ball Tunnels: While in Morph Ball form, you can lay Bombs to propel yourself upwards or sideways, allowing access to otherwise unreachable tunnels and ledges.
- Damage Enemies: Bombs can also be used as an offensive weapon against certain enemies, particularly those that are resistant to your Power Beam or are in tight spaces.
Experiment with your new Bombs! Head back the way you came and look for any cracked blocks you may have passed. There are often hidden Missile Expansions or Energy Tanks tucked away behind them in the early areas of SR388.
