Full Item Checklist

Welcome to the comprehensive item checklist for Metroid: Other M! This section is designed to help you track down every last Missile Tank, Energy Tank, and other crucial upgrade scattered across the Bottle Ship. While the game often guides you to essential items, many are hidden in plain sight or require specific abilities to access. Use this guide to ensure you leave no stone unturned and maximize Samus's combat potential.

Items are generally listed in the order they become accessible, though some areas may require backtracking with new abilities. Always refer to your map to pinpoint exact room names and ensure you're in the right location. Remember that many items are found by using your Scan Visor to reveal hidden passages or by interacting with environmental elements.

Main Sector

Energy Tanks

  • Energy Tank 1: Main Hallway (Sector 1 Entrance)

After the initial cutscene and gaining control of Samus, proceed through the Main Hallway. This Energy Tank is impossible to miss, located directly in your path as you learn the basic movement controls. It serves as a tutorial for picking up items.

  • Energy Tank 2: Bioweapon Research Center (Sector 1)

Once you gain the Diffusion Beam, return to the Bioweapon Research Center. In the large room with the central platform and multiple enemies, look for a cracked wall on the upper level. Charge your Diffusion Beam and fire at the wall to destroy it, revealing a hidden alcove containing the Energy Tank.

Missile Tanks

  • Missile Tank 1: Main Reactor (Sector 1)

After the first major boss encounter in the Main Reactor, you'll find this Missile Tank in the same room. It's located on a raised platform that becomes accessible once the battle concludes and the area is safe. Use your Morph Ball to roll into the small opening.

  • Missile Tank 2: Exam Center (Sector 1)

In the Exam Center, where you first encounter the small, fast enemies, look for a series of platforms leading upwards. This Missile Tank is situated on one of the higher platforms. You'll need to carefully jump and potentially use your Wall Jump ability to reach it.

  • Missile Tank 3: Waste Disposal (Sector 1)

Once you have the Power Bomb, head to the Waste Disposal area. There's a section with a large, destructible block on the floor. Deploy a Power Bomb near it to shatter the block, revealing a hidden passage that leads to this Missile Tank.

Sector 1: Biosphere

Energy Tanks

  • Energy Tank 3: Jungle Floor (Sector 1)

In the expansive Jungle Floor area, after navigating through the dense foliage, you'll come across a waterfall. Behind this waterfall is a hidden cave entrance. Roll into Morph Ball form and enter the cave to find the Energy Tank. You might need to use your Scan Visor to highlight the entrance.

Missile Tanks

  • Missile Tank 4: Water Tank (Sector 1)

Upon entering the Water Tank room, look for a submerged passage. You'll need the Gravity Suit to comfortably navigate underwater. Follow the passage to a small, enclosed area where this Missile Tank is located. Be wary of aquatic enemies.

  • Missile Tank 5: Research Lab (Sector 1)

In the Research Lab, after activating the power, observe the large glass tubes. One of these tubes has a small crack. Use a charged shot or a Missile to break the glass, revealing a hidden passage behind it. Follow this passage to claim the Missile Tank.

Sector 2: Cryosphere

Energy Tanks

  • Energy Tank 4: Frozen Caverns (Sector 2)

Within the Frozen Caverns, look for a section with ice stalactites hanging from the ceiling. One of these stalactites is noticeably larger and slightly discolored. Shoot it with a Missile to break it, causing it to fall and reveal a hidden alcove with the Energy Tank.

Missile Tanks

  • Missile Tank 6: Ice Processing Plant (Sector 2)

In the Ice Processing Plant, where you encounter the large ice-based enemies, there's a conveyor belt system. Follow the conveyor belt to its end, and you'll find a small opening that requires the Morph Ball. Roll through to reach the Missile Tank.

  • Missile Tank 7: Geothermal Power Plant (Sector 2)

After restoring power to the Geothermal Power Plant, return to the main chamber. A previously inaccessible platform will now be moving. Ride this platform to the upper level, and the Missile Tank will be clearly visible.

Sector 3: Pyrosphere

Energy Tanks

  • Energy Tank 5: Magma Chamber (Sector 3)

In the Magma Chamber, where the lava flows freely, look for a series of small, floating platforms. Carefully navigate across these platforms. At the end, you'll find a small ledge with the Energy Tank. The Varia Suit is highly recommended for this area.

Missile Tanks

  • Missile Tank 8: Volcanic Vent (Sector 3)

Inside the Volcanic Vent area, you'll encounter sections with rising and falling lava. Time your movements carefully to avoid damage. Look for a small, elevated platform that becomes accessible when the lava recedes. The Missile Tank is located there.

  • Missile Tank 9: Furnace Room (Sector 3)

In the Furnace Room, where the large mechanical arms are operating, observe the walls. One section of the wall appears slightly weaker. Use a Power Bomb to destroy this section, revealing a hidden passage leading to the Missile Tank.

Pyrosphere (Post-Ridley)

Energy Tanks

  • Energy Tank 6: Ridley's Lair (Sector 3)

After defeating Ridley, thoroughly explore the boss arena. In one of the corners, near where Ridley's body fell, a new path will open up. Follow this path to a small, secluded area containing this Energy Tank. It's easy to miss if you rush out.

Missile Tanks

  • Missile Tank 10: Main Elevator Shaft (Sector 3)

After the events with Ridley, return to the Main Elevator Shaft connecting Sector 3 to the Main Sector. As you ascend, look for a hidden alcove on one of the walls that can only be reached by Wall Jumping or using the Screw Attack. This Missile Tank is tucked away there.

Other Key Items & Upgrades

  • Diffusion Beam: Main Sector (Bioweapon Research Center)

Obtained automatically after a mini-boss fight in the Bioweapon Research Center. This upgrade allows your charge shot to explode on impact, damaging multiple enemies and destroying certain environmental obstacles.

  • Grapple Beam: Sector 1 (Jungle Floor)

Acquired after defeating the large plant-like creature in the Jungle Floor. The Grapple Beam allows Samus to latch onto specific grapple points, swinging across gaps and pulling down certain objects.

  • Plasma Beam: Sector 2 (Ice Processing Plant)

Awarded after a significant boss battle in the Ice Processing Plant. This powerful beam pierces through enemies and some barriers, making it invaluable for combat and puzzle-solving.

  • Power Bomb: Sector 3 (Magma Chamber)

Found after navigating a challenging section of the Magma Chamber. Power Bombs are devastating explosives that clear the screen of most enemies and destroy specific reinforced blocks, opening new paths.

  • Screw Attack: Main Sector (Main Reactor)

Obtained late in the game, after a major plot development in the Main Reactor. The Screw Attack grants Samus invincibility during her somersaults, allowing her to damage enemies by simply touching them and break through certain blocks.

  • Gravity Suit: Main Sector (Water Tank)

Acquired in the Water Tank area of the Main Sector after a specific event. The Gravity Suit negates the movement penalties of water and lava, allowing for free movement in these environments and reducing damage from heat/cold.

This checklist covers the primary item locations. Remember to constantly use your map and Scan Visor to uncover any remaining secrets. Happy hunting, Space Hunter!
