Boss: Boost Guardian
The Boost Guardian is a formidable foe found in the Dark Agon Wastes, specifically within the Boost Ball Guardian's Chamber. This boss is a Dark Splinter possessing the Boost Ball ability, making it incredibly fast and dangerous. Prepare for a fight that demands quick reflexes and precise timing.
Recommended Equipment
- Dark Suit: Essential for mitigating damage from the Dark Aether environment and the Boost Guardian's attacks.
- Energy Tanks: Have at least 3-4 Energy Tanks to absorb hits.
- Missiles: Stock up on these; they are your primary damage dealers.
- Morph Ball Bombs: Useful for stunning and creating openings.
Phase 1: Morph Ball Mayhem
The Boost Guardian will spend the majority of this phase in its Morph Ball form, zipping around the arena at high speeds. Your goal is to force it out of this form.
- Dodge and Observe: The Boost Guardian will often perform a Boost Ball attack, charging directly at Samus. This is its most common and dangerous attack. Keep moving and use your Boost Ball yourself to evade.
- Bomb Traps: When the Boost Guardian is in Morph Ball form, lay down Morph Ball Bombs in its path. The timing is crucial; try to anticipate its trajectory.
- Stun and Attack: If a Bomb connects, the Boost Guardian will be briefly stunned and forced into its bipedal form. This is your window of opportunity! Immediately switch to your Power Beam and unleash a volley of Missiles. Charge shots can also be effective if you're low on Missiles.
- Repeat: Continue this cycle of dodging, bombing, and attacking until its health is significantly depleted.
Phase 2: Dark Aether Corruption
Once the Boost Guardian has taken enough damage, it will begin to incorporate Dark Aether energy into its attacks, making the fight more challenging.
- Dark Boost Ball: The Boost Guardian's Boost Ball attack will now leave behind trails of Dark Aether energy, inflicting damage if you touch them. Be even more vigilant about dodging.
- Dark Energy Orbs: It may also occasionally fire small Dark Energy Orbs. These are relatively easy to avoid with continuous movement.
- Maintain Strategy: The core strategy remains the same: force it into bipedal form with Morph Ball Bombs and then barrage it with Missiles.
- Health Management: Keep an eye on your Energy Tanks. If you're running low, try to create some distance to collect any health drops the boss might leave behind, though these are rare.
Victory and Reward
Upon defeating the Boost Guardian, it will explode, leaving behind the valuable Boost Ball upgrade. This essential item will allow Samus to perform a powerful dash in Morph Ball form, opening up new areas and movement options throughout Aether.
