Boss: Chykka
The monstrous Chykka is the guardian of the Dark Temple Key in the Dark Agon Wastes. This multi-stage boss fight will test your beam management and dodging skills. Ensure you have a good supply of Energy Tanks and Missile Expansions before engaging.
Phase 1: Chykka Larva
The battle begins with the Chykka Larva, a large, aquatic creature. Your primary objective here is to damage its vulnerable underbelly.
- Weapon of Choice: The Power Beam is your most effective weapon in this phase. Charge shots are particularly potent.
- Strategy:
- The Larva will swim around the arena. Keep your distance and lock on.
- It will periodically surface and attempt to ram you or spit projectiles. Dodge these attacks by strafing or jumping.
- When it surfaces and exposes its glowing, orange underbelly, unleash a volley of charged Power Beam shots.
- After taking sufficient damage, the Larva will submerge and release several Chykklings. These smaller creatures are easily dispatched with single Power Beam shots. Defeat them quickly to prevent being overwhelmed and to replenish any lost health or ammo.
- Repeat this process until the Larva is defeated.
Phase 2: Chykka (Adult Form)
Once the Larva is defeated, it will transform into the adult Chykka, a massive flying insectoid. This phase introduces the concept of Light and Dark Aether and requires careful management of your suit's energy.
- Weapons of Choice: The Light Beam and Dark Beam are crucial here.
- Strategy:
- Chykka will fly around the arena, which is now split into sections of Light and Dark Aether. Standing in Dark Aether will drain your energy, so prioritize staying in Light Aether zones.
- Chykka's main attack is to swoop down and try to ram you. It will also fire projectiles. Use your Boost Ball to quickly dodge these attacks.
- Weak Point: Chykka's wings are its vulnerable points. When it's flying, target its wings with the Light Beam. Charged Light Beam shots are highly effective.
- After taking enough damage to its wings, Chykka will crash-land and become temporarily stunned. This is your window to inflict heavy damage.
- Switch to the Dark Beam and fire charged shots directly into its body.
- Alternatively, if you have them, unleash a few Super Missiles for maximum damage.
- Chykka will also summon Chykka Flyers, smaller flying enemies that will attack you. These can be defeated with a few Power Beam shots or a single charged Light Beam shot. Defeating them can drop health and ammo.
- Periodically, Chykka will create a large vortex of Dark Aether. Quickly move to a Light Aether zone to avoid continuous energy drain.
- Repeat the process of damaging its wings with the Light Beam, then hitting its body with the Dark Beam or Super Missiles when it's stunned.
Phase 3: Dark Chykka
In its final, most aggressive form, Chykka will be engulfed in Dark Aether energy. This phase demands quick reflexes and precise aiming.
- Weapons of Choice: The Light Beam and Dark Beam remain essential.
- Strategy:
- Dark Chykka is faster and its attacks are more powerful. It will frequently charge at you and unleash barrages of Dark Aether projectiles.
- Weak Point: Its wings are still vulnerable, but now they glow with Dark Aether. You must use the Light Beam to strip away this Dark Aether energy. Fire charged Light Beam shots at its wings until the dark energy dissipates.
- Once the Dark Aether is removed from its wings, they will glow with a faint light. This is your opportunity to inflict damage with the Dark Beam. Fire charged Dark Beam shots at the now-exposed wings.
- After sufficient damage, Dark Chykka will again crash-land and be stunned. Just like in Phase 2, switch to the Light Beam and fire charged shots or Super Missiles into its body.
- Dark Chykka will also summon Dark Chykka Flyers. These are more resilient than their Light counterparts. Use charged Light Beam shots to dispatch them quickly.
- Be mindful of your energy. The arena will still have Light and Dark Aether zones. Utilize the Light Aether zones for recovery and to avoid damage.
- Continue this pattern: Light Beam on Dark Aether wings, Dark Beam on exposed wings, then Light Beam/Super Missiles on the stunned body.
Upon defeating Dark Chykka, the Dark Temple Key will be yours. Collect it and prepare for your next challenge!
