Introduction to Aether

Welcome, bounty hunter, to Aether! Your mission begins amidst the wreckage of your gunship, the Varia Suit your only companion. This guide will navigate you through the initial, crucial steps to understanding this war-torn planet and preparing for the challenges ahead.

Initial Landing and Suit Recovery

Upon crash-landing, your first priority is to re-establish your systems. Follow these steps:

1. Exiting the Gunship: After the opening cinematic, you'll find yourself in the Landing Site. Head forward and exit your damaged gunship.
2. Scan the Area: Immediately use your Scan Visor (press 'C' on the GameCube controller) to scan the various wreckage and the surrounding environment. This provides valuable lore and tutorial information.
3. Retrieve the Varia Suit: Your Varia Suit is partially damaged. Proceed directly forward from your gunship's exit. You'll find a small alcove containing the suit upgrade. Walk into it to automatically equip it. This restores your basic defenses.
4. Activate the Door: To the right of your gunship's exit, you'll notice a sealed door. Scan the adjacent Door Mechanism. Charge your Power Beam (hold 'A') and fire at the mechanism to open the door.

Temple Grounds: First Steps

The Temple Grounds serve as your initial hub. Familiarize yourself with its layout and immediate threats.

• Main Path: Follow the path from the Landing Site into the Temple Grounds. You'll encounter your first enemies here: the small, aggressive Splinter creatures. A single charged shot from your Power Beam will dispatch them easily.
• Energy Tank #1: As you progress through the Temple Grounds, keep an eye out for a small, elevated platform to your left. Use your Morph Ball (press 'L') to roll into the tunnel beneath it. Inside, you'll find your first Energy Tank. This crucial item increases your maximum health.
• Save Station: Shortly after the Energy Tank, you'll come across a Save Station. Always utilize these when available to record your progress.
• Security Station: Continue through the Temple Grounds until you reach the Security Station. Here, you'll encounter a locked door requiring a specific energy signature.

Acquiring the Dark Beam

To proceed past the Security Station, you'll need a new weapon. The Dark Beam is your next objective.

1. Accessing the Dark World: From the Security Station, look for a glowing portal. This is a Dark Portal. Walk into it to transport yourself to the Dark Aether counterpart of the Temple Grounds.
2. Navigating Dark Aether: The Dark World is a hostile environment. Your health will constantly drain while in Dark Aether, so move quickly and stay within the protective light of Light Crystals or Light Beacons.
3. Dark Beam Location: In Dark Aether, navigate through the equivalent of the Temple Grounds. You'll soon reach a chamber called the Main Energy Transfer Station. Here, you'll find the Dark Beam lying on a pedestal. Approach it to automatically acquire it.
4. Returning to Light Aether: Once you have the Dark Beam, locate another Dark Portal in the Main Energy Transfer Station and return to Light Aether.

Opening the Security Station Door

With the Dark Beam in hand, you can now bypass the Security Station's lock.

• Targeting the Mechanism: Return to the Security Station in Light Aether. Scan the locked door's mechanism again. It will now indicate a weakness to Dark energy.
• Using the Dark Beam: Switch to your Dark Beam (press 'Y' to cycle weapons) and charge a shot (hold 'A'). Fire at the mechanism. The door will now open, granting you access to the deeper regions of Aether.

Congratulations! You've taken your first significant steps on Aether. The path ahead is fraught with danger, but with these initial upgrades and an understanding of the dual worlds, you're ready to face it.
