Boss Strategies
Welcome, bounty hunter! This section is dedicated to helping you overcome the formidable adversaries you'll encounter throughout your mission in Metroid Prime 3: Corruption. Each boss presents a unique challenge, requiring specific tactics and weapon usage. Prepare for intense battles and remember to utilize your full arsenal!
Rundas
Your first major encounter will be with the corrupted bounty hunter, Rundas, on the planet Norion. This battle takes place in two distinct phases.
Phase 1: Aerial Assault
- Location: Generator Core, Norion.
- Strategy:
- Rundas will primarily attack from the air, launching ice projectiles and attempting to freeze you. Keep moving constantly to avoid his attacks.
- Focus your fire with the Charge Beam. A fully charged shot will temporarily stun him, allowing you to get in several more hits.
- When he hovers and charges a large ice blast, quickly use your Grapple Lasso on the glowing grapple points on the surrounding platforms. This will pull you out of the blast radius and prevent significant damage.
- After taking enough damage, Rundas will retreat to the ground for the next phase.
Phase 2: Ground Combat
- Location: Generator Core, Norion.
- Strategy:
- Rundas will now be on the ground, creating ice barriers and sliding around the arena. His attacks are more direct but still involve ice.
- The key here is to use your Morph Ball. When Rundas creates an ice barrier, quickly transform into a Morph Ball and roll underneath it to flank him.
- Once you're behind him, unleash a barrage of Missiles. Missiles are highly effective against him in this phase.
- Be wary of his ice trails; touching them will slow you down and leave you vulnerable.
- Continue this pattern of flanking with the Morph Ball and firing Missiles until his health is depleted.
Mogenar
This colossal Ghor-designed war golem awaits you on the planet Bryyo, guarding the Leviathan Seed.
Phase 1: Core Exposure
- Location: Mogenar's Core Chamber, Bryyo.
- Strategy:
- Mogenar is heavily armored, and direct attacks will do little. Your primary goal is to expose its weak points.
- The boss has four glowing, orange energy cores on its body. Target these with your Charge Beam.
- After destroying one core, Mogenar will retaliate with powerful energy blasts and ground pounds. Jump to avoid the shockwaves.
- Once all four cores are destroyed, Mogenar will become temporarily stunned, revealing a central core in its chest.
Phase 2: Hypermode Assault
- Location: Mogenar's Core Chamber, Bryyo.
- Strategy:
- When the central core is exposed, immediately activate Hypermode.
- Unload a continuous stream of Hyper Beam shots into the exposed core. This is your window for significant damage.
- Mogenar will eventually recover and reactivate its outer cores, requiring you to repeat Phase 1.
- Be mindful of your Phazon meter during Hypermode. If it fills completely, you'll enter Corrupted Hypermode, which drains your health.
- Repeat these two phases until Mogenar is defeated. It's a battle of attrition, so conserve your energy tanks if possible.
Ghor
The second corrupted bounty hunter you'll face, Ghor, has merged with his own war machine on Elysia.
Phase 1: Armored Form
- Location: Main Reactor, Elysia.
- Strategy:
- Ghor's initial form is heavily armored. He will fly around the arena, firing energy blasts and attempting to ram you.
- Your primary weapon here is the Plasma Beam. Charge it up and fire at Ghor whenever you have an opening. The Plasma Beam is effective at melting his armor.
- When Ghor charges up a large energy sphere, quickly use your Grapple Lasso on the grapple points located around the reactor core to pull yourself to safety.
- After taking enough damage, his armor will begin to break apart, revealing his true form.
Phase 2: Exposed Form
- Location: Main Reactor, Elysia.
- Strategy:
- Ghor's armor is now mostly gone, and he's more agile but also more vulnerable. He'll continue to fly and attack aggressively.
- Activate Hypermode and unleash your Hyper Beam on Ghor. This is the most effective way to deal damage in this phase.
- He will occasionally transform into a Morph Ball and roll around the arena, dropping bombs. Avoid these and wait for him to revert to his bipedal form.
- Keep your distance and continue to fire Hyper Beam shots until he is defeated. Remember to manage your Phazon meter carefully.
