Boss Weaknesses
Conquering the formidable bosses of Metroid Prime 3: Corruption requires more than just brute force. Understanding their specific weaknesses and attack patterns is key to victory. This section provides detailed strategies for each major boss encounter, ensuring you emerge triumphant.
Rundas
Your first major encounter will be with the bounty hunter, Rundas, in the Generator Core on Norion.
- Phase 1: Ice Attacks
- Rundas will primarily attack with ice projectiles and ice-based melee strikes. Maintain distance and continuously strafe to avoid his attacks.
- His main vulnerability during this phase is when he charges his ice attacks. A well-placed Charge Beam shot will interrupt him and deal significant damage.
- When he creates ice platforms, use them to your advantage for cover or to gain a better firing angle.
- Phase 2: Phazon Corruption
- Once his health is sufficiently depleted, Rundas will become Phazon-corrupted, increasing his aggression and attack speed.
- Activate your Hypermode (by pressing the + button) when he enters this state. This will allow you to deal massive damage with Hyper Beam shots.
- Be wary of his new ice-wave attack; jump over it or use the environment for cover.
- Continue to hit him with Hyper Beam shots, especially when he's vulnerable after a failed attack or when charging.
- Actionable Tip: If you run low on energy during Hypermode, quickly switch back to normal mode to avoid the Phazon overload. Collect any energy pickups dropped by the environment or smaller enemies if available.
Ghor
The mechanical terror, Ghor, awaits you in the Main Reactor of the Bryyo Fire region.
- Phase 1: Armored Form
- Ghor is heavily armored, making direct attacks largely ineffective. His primary weakness here is his exposed back.
- Wait for Ghor to charge at you. As he passes, quickly use your Grapple Lasso (by aiming at his back with the C button and flicking the Wii Remote) to pull off sections of his armor.
- After removing armor, his exposed circuits will glow. Target these with rapid Power Beam shots or a charged Charge Beam for maximum damage.
- He will also deploy small, explosive drones. Destroy these quickly with a few Power Beam shots to prevent them from damaging you.
- Phase 2: Exposed Core
- Once enough armor is removed, Ghor's central core will be exposed. This is his ultimate weakness.
- Activate Hypermode and unleash a barrage of Hyper Beam shots directly into his core.
- Ghor will attempt to electrify the floor. Jump and use the Space Jump Boots to stay airborne and avoid taking damage.
- Continue to fire Hyper Beam shots until Ghor is defeated.
- Item Focus: Ensure you have at least two Energy Tanks before this fight, as Ghor's attacks can be quite damaging.
Mogenar
You'll face the colossal Mogenar in the Main Cavern of Elysia's SkyTown.
- Phase 1: Energy Orbs
- Mogenar is protected by four rotating energy orbs. These must be destroyed first.
- Each orb has a specific color, indicating its vulnerability to a particular beam weapon. Scan Mogenar to identify the correct beam for each orb.
- For example, a red orb might be vulnerable to the Plasma Beam, while a blue orb might require the Ice Beam. Switch your beams accordingly.
- Mogenar will attack with energy waves and ground pounds. Use your Screw Attack if you have it to quickly traverse the arena and avoid these attacks, or simply jump and strafe.
- Phase 2: Core Vulnerability
- Once all four energy orbs are destroyed, Mogenar's central core will be exposed and glow brightly.
- This is your window to deal significant damage. Activate Hypermode and unleash a sustained volley of Hyper Beam shots into the core.
- Mogenar will attempt to regenerate his orbs. Focus fire on the core to prevent this. If he successfully regenerates, you'll need to repeat Phase 1.
- Strategic Retreat: If you're low on energy or Phazon during Hypermode, retreat to a safe distance, collect any energy drops, and then re-engage.
