Scan Visor Entries
The Scan Visor is an invaluable tool for any bounty hunter, not just for uncovering lore, but for revealing critical weaknesses of enemies and environmental puzzles. A complete scan log is essential for 100% completion, and some scans are easily missed. This section details key Scan Visor entries, their locations, and how to acquire them, especially those that might prove tricky.
Boss & Mini-Boss Scans
Scanning bosses and mini-bosses is crucial for understanding their attack patterns and vulnerabilities. Always attempt to scan them at the beginning of an encounter, and if possible, during different phases of their fight for updated data.
- Berserker Lord: This early boss in the Norion Generator Chamber will be your first major challenge. Scan him immediately as the fight begins. His vulnerabilities are often tied to his Phazon-infused limbs.
- Mogenar: Found in the Valhalla System, Mogenar requires multiple scans. Ensure you scan him during his initial phase and again after exposing his core. Missing the initial scan means restarting the fight for the log.
- Omega Ridley: This formidable foe in the Phaaze Core has several phases. Scan him at the start, and pay close attention to his chest cavity when it glows, as this is a separate scan entry.
Environmental & Lore Scans
These entries often provide background information, hints, or unlock access to hidden areas. They are frequently found on terminals, data logs, or unique environmental objects.
- G.F.S. Olympus Data Logs: Throughout the G.F.S. Olympus, especially in the Command Deck and Barracks, you'll find numerous terminals. Scan every glowing console and data pad to gather crucial intel on the Phazon outbreak and the Galactic Federation's efforts. Many of these are time-sensitive during your initial visit.
- Pirate Data Terminals: On the Pirate Homeworld, keep an eye out for Pirate Data Terminals. These often contain information about their experiments and plans. The ones in the Research Facility and Phazon Mining Site are particularly rich in lore.
- Chozo Artifacts: While not all Chozo artifacts are scannable, some unique structures or ancient carvings found on Elysia and Bryyo offer valuable insight into their history and the origins of Phazon. Look for glowing glyphs or unusual energy signatures.
Creature & Enemy Scans
Every enemy, from the smallest Critter to the most imposing Leviathan Guardian, has a scan entry. Scanning enemies often reveals their weak points or effective weapon types against them.
- Critters: These small, often harmless creatures are easily overlooked. Make a point to scan at least one of each type you encounter, such as the Norion Critter or the Bryyo Fire Critter, as they contribute to your log.
- Phazon-Corrupted Enemies: Many standard enemies will have Phazon-corrupted variants later in the game. These are distinct scan entries! For example, the Space Pirate will eventually have a Phazon Pirate counterpart. Ensure you scan both.
- Shielded Enemies: Enemies like the Shielded Pirate or Gatling Turret often have specific weaknesses revealed by the scan, such as needing a specific beam or missile type to bypass their defenses.
Missable Scans & Tips
- Self-Destructing Objects: Some objects, like certain explosive crates or weakened structural points, can be scanned before you destroy them. If you blow them up too quickly, you'll miss the entry.
- One-Time Encounters: Be vigilant during unique events or boss introductions. Some enemies or environmental elements only appear once. For instance, the initial Leviathan Seed in its uncorrupted state is a unique scan before you interact with it.
- Re-scanning for Updates: Occasionally, an enemy's entry might update after you acquire a new ability or weapon. While not always a new entry, it can provide tactical advantages. Always re-scan bosses if you return to their arena with new gear.
- Use Hypermode Wisely: While Hypermode is powerful, avoid using it to instantly dispatch enemies you haven't scanned yet. Prioritize the scan, then unleash your Phazon fury.
