Story Synopsis
Metroid Prime 3: Corruption thrusts Samus Aran into a galaxy-spanning conflict against the insidious Phazon corruption. This detailed synopsis will guide you through the core narrative beats and key objectives you'll encounter.
The Galactic Federation's Plea
The game begins with Samus Aran, along with fellow bounty hunters Rundas, Ghor, and Gandrayda, being summoned to the G.F.S. Olympus. The Galactic Federation briefs them on a new threat: the Space Pirates have begun attacking Federation bases with a mysterious, highly destructive weapon. During this briefing, the G.F.S. Olympus comes under attack by Space Pirates, led by a corrupted Dark Samus. The bounty hunters engage the enemy, but Dark Samus unleashes a devastating Phazon attack, corrupting Samus and her allies, and leaving them unconscious.
Norion: The First Stand
Samus awakens on the G.F.S. Olympus after being outfitted with the Phazon Enhancement Device (PED) Suit, a prototype designed to harness and control Phazon. Your initial mission is to help restore power to the damaged G.F.S. Olympus and then proceed to the planet Norion, which is under heavy Space Pirate assault. Your primary objectives on Norion are:
- Restore Power to Generator A: Navigate through the damaged sections of Norion, battling Space Pirates and environmental hazards. You'll need to activate various consoles and clear debris to reach Generator A.
- Restore Power to Generator C: Continue through the Norion complex, utilizing your newly acquired PED Suit abilities to overcome obstacles. Generator C will present more formidable defenses and a larger contingent of Space Pirates.
- Defeat the Mogenar: After restoring power, you'll confront the Mogenar, a massive Space Pirate war machine, in a climactic battle. Utilize your Hypermode ability strategically to deal significant damage.
Bryyo: The First Phazon Seed
Following the events on Norion, the Federation dispatches Samus to Bryyo, a volatile, ancient planet, to investigate a mysterious energy signature. This signature is revealed to be a Phazon Seed, a massive Phazon-infused object that is corrupting the planet. Your mission on Bryyo involves:
- Acquire the Grapple Swing: Early in your exploration of Bryyo's Cliffside region, you'll need to locate and acquire the Grapple Swing. This essential upgrade allows you to traverse large gaps and interact with specific environmental elements.
- Obtain Ice Missiles: In the fiery depths of Bryyo, specifically the Fiery area, you'll encounter obstacles that require the Ice Missiles to freeze and shatter. This upgrade is crucial for progressing through certain areas and defeating specific enemies.
- Utilize Gunship Missiles: In the Bryyo Cliffside, you'll encounter large, armored structures or environmental blockades that can only be destroyed by calling in a Gunship Missile strike. Target these points with your visor and request support.
- Disable Seed Shield 1: The Phazon Seed is protected by multiple energy shields. You'll need to find and disable the first shield generator, often involving complex puzzle-solving and combat encounters in the Fiery region.
- Disable Seed Shield 2: Progressing into the Thorn Jungle of Bryyo, you'll locate the second shield generator. This area is typically heavily guarded and may require the use of your newest abilities.
- Destroy the Phazon Seed: After disabling both shields, you'll confront the guardian of the Phazon Seed. Defeat this boss and then use your Hyper Ball ability (Morph Ball in Hypermode) to overload and destroy the Phazon Seed, preventing further corruption.
Elysia: Second Phazon Seed
Your next destination is Elysia, a sky-city inhabited by the peaceful Elysians. This advanced civilization is also under threat from a Phazon Seed. Your primary objectives on Elysia include:
- Acquire the Boost Ball: In SkyTown West, you'll need to locate and integrate the Boost Ball upgrade into your Morph Ball. This allows for increased speed and the ability to activate Boost Ball slots to open new pathways.
- Obtain the Plasma Beam: Also within SkyTown West, you'll discover the Plasma Beam. This powerful weapon is essential for melting specific types of ice and metal, opening up new areas and dealing increased damage to certain enemies.
- Navigate SkyTown's Complexities: Elysia's SkyTown is a multi-layered environment. You'll need to utilize your new abilities to activate various mechanisms, repair damaged energy conduits, and traverse the floating platforms to reach the Phazon Seed's location.
- Confront the Corrupted Ghor: One of your former bounty hunter allies, Ghor, has been corrupted by Phazon and now guards the Elysian Phazon Seed. You will engage him in a boss battle, utilizing your Plasma Beam and Hypermode to defeat him and disable the second Phazon Seed.
