Samus Aran's Arm Cannon is her most iconic and versatile weapon. Throughout your journey in Metroid Prime 3: Corruption, you'll acquire several crucial upgrades that enhance its capabilities, allowing you to overcome new obstacles and defeat increasingly powerful foes. Mastering these upgrades is key to a successful mission.

Beam Upgrades

Your primary weapon, the Power Beam, can be augmented with various elemental properties, each with unique effects against specific enemies and environmental puzzles.

• Plasma Beam:
  • Location: This scorching beam is acquired on Bryyo Fire. You'll find it after defeating the Mogenar boss in the Generator Core. Following the intense battle, the Plasma Beam will be your reward, allowing you to melt through previously impassable ice and deal significant damage to organic enemies.
  • Strategy: The Plasma Beam is excellent for quickly dispatching most biological threats. Its rapid-fire nature makes it a good choice for crowd control. Remember to charge it for a more powerful, concentrated blast that can often stun enemies or break through tougher defenses.
• Nova Beam:
  • Location: The powerful Nova Beam is located on Phaaze, deep within the planet's core. You'll obtain it after navigating the treacherous Phazon Mine and defeating the Omega Ridley boss. The Nova Beam is essential for destroying Phazon-infused objects and enemies.
  • Strategy: The Nova Beam is your ultimate weapon against Phazon-corrupted targets. Its charged shot can penetrate most defenses, making it invaluable for bosses and heavily armored enemies. Use it to destroy blue Phazon barriers and reveal hidden pathways.

Missile Upgrades

Missiles provide a powerful, explosive alternative to your beam weapons, often required to break through reinforced barriers or deal heavy damage to bosses.

• Seeker Missiles:
  • Location: The Seeker Missiles are found on Elysia, within the SkyTown East area. You'll need to solve a series of puzzles involving the Spider Ball and grapple points to reach the upgrade in the Concourse.
  • Strategy: Seeker Missiles allow you to lock onto multiple targets simultaneously. Hold down the Missile button and drag your reticle over up to five enemies or weak points. Releasing the button will unleash a volley of homing missiles. This is particularly useful for clearing rooms quickly or hitting multiple targets on a boss. They are also crucial for activating certain multi-target switches.
• Hyper Missiles:
  • Location: The Hyper Missiles are a temporary upgrade acquired during your Phazon-enhanced state (Hypermode). They are not a permanent pickup but rather a powerful ability tied to your Phazon corruption.
  • Strategy: When in Hypermode, your standard missiles are replaced with Hyper Missiles. These deal significantly more damage and have a larger blast radius. Use them strategically during boss fights or against large groups of tough enemies when you need to maximize damage output. Be mindful of your Phazon meter, as prolonged Hypermode use can lead to Phazon Overload.

Charge Beam Enhancements

While not a separate weapon, the Charge Beam is a fundamental mechanic that can be enhanced to increase its potency and utility.

• Charge Shot:
  • Location: This is a default ability of your Arm Cannon from the beginning of the game.
  • Strategy: Holding down the fire button charges your beam, releasing a more powerful shot. This charged shot can often stun smaller enemies, break certain environmental objects, and is required for some puzzles. Combining it with beam upgrades (e.g., Charged Plasma Beam) amplifies its effects.
• Charge Combo:
  • Location: The Charge Combo is a permanent upgrade found on Norion, early in the game, within the Maintenance Shaft. You'll need to navigate some initial platforming challenges to reach it.
  • Strategy: The Charge Combo allows you to combine your charged beam with a missile for a devastating, explosive attack. After charging your beam, press the Missile button before releasing the fire button. This consumes one missile but delivers a powerful blast, often capable of destroying tougher enemies or specific barriers that resist regular missiles.
