Walkthrough - GFS Valhalla
Welcome back, bounty hunter. Your next objective takes you to the derelict GFS Valhalla, a ghost ship adrift in space. This mission is critical for understanding the Phazon threat and acquiring vital upgrades. Be prepared for tight corridors, environmental hazards, and unexpected encounters.
Initial Exploration & Damage Assessment
Upon docking with the GFS Valhalla, you'll find the ship in a state of severe disrepair. The initial areas serve as an introduction to the ship's layout and the dangers within.
- Docking Bay: Your entry point. Scan the surrounding area for any environmental logs or data entries.
- Access Tunnel: Proceed through the tunnel. You'll encounter your first environmental hazard here – Phazon-corrupted machinery. Use your Scan Visor to identify weak points and proceed with caution.
- Main Hangar: This large, open area is heavily damaged.
- Objective: Locate the ship's central computer core to assess the damage and find a way to restore power.
- Enemies: Expect to encounter Phazon Hoppers and possibly some Corrupted Space Pirates. Use your Plasma Beam for effective crowd control.
- Item: Keep an eye out for an Energy Tank hidden behind some debris in the upper levels of the Hangar. You'll need to use your Grapple Lasso to pull away the obstructing panels.
Restoring Auxiliary Power
The ship's primary systems are offline, but auxiliary power can be restored to open new pathways.
- Engineering Access: From the Main Hangar, locate the sealed door leading to Engineering. It requires auxiliary power.
- Auxiliary Power Conduit: Follow the damaged conduit lines from the sealed door. They will lead you to a series of Power Junctions.
- Power Junction Puzzle: Each Power Junction requires a specific sequence of shots or a precise use of the Grapple Lasso to realign the power flow.
- Strategy: Use your Scan Visor on each junction to reveal the correct interaction. Some may require a charged shot, others a quick grapple pull.
- Reward: Successfully restoring auxiliary power will open the door to Engineering Access.
Navigating Engineering and the Central Core
Engineering is a maze of broken machinery and hazardous Phazon leaks. Proceed with extreme caution.
- Engineering Sector: This area is heavily contaminated with Phazon. Your Phazon Suit will provide some protection, but prolonged exposure is still dangerous.
- Environmental Hazard: Avoid direct contact with the large Phazon pools. Use platforms and your Screw Attack to traverse safely.
- Enemies: Expect tougher Phazon-enhanced Space Pirates and new enemies like Phazon Metroids. These Metroids are highly resistant to conventional weapons; focus on their weak points with charged shots or use your Hypermode for a quick dispatch.
- Central Computer Core: Located at the heart of Engineering.
- Objective: Download critical data logs from the core. This will require interacting with the main console.
- Mini-Boss Encounter: As you attempt to download the data, a Corrupted Golem will activate.
- Strategy: The Golem is heavily armored. Target its glowing Phazon-infused joints. Once exposed, unleash a barrage of Plasma Beam shots. Be mindful of its ground-pound attacks and energy blasts.
- Reward: Defeating the Golem will grant you access to the data download and clear the path forward.
- Item: After downloading the data, scan the console area thoroughly. You'll find a Missile Expansion hidden in a wall panel that opens after the Golem is defeated.
Escape and Further Objectives
With the data acquired, your next step is to find a way off the Valhalla and report your findings.
- Escape Route: The data logs will reveal a partially functional escape route through the ship's cargo bay.
- Cargo Bay: This area is unstable and requires careful navigation.
- Environmental Puzzle: Use your Morph Ball and Bombs to clear debris and activate cargo lifts to reach the exit.
- Item: Before exiting, look for a cracked wall in the upper section of the Cargo Bay. A well-placed Morph Ball Bomb will reveal a hidden alcove containing a Super Missile Expansion.
- Return to Ship: Follow the designated path back to your gunship. Be prepared for a few lingering Phazon creatures on your way out.
Once back in your gunship, transmit the data to Federation Command. The information gathered from the GFS Valhalla is crucial for understanding the escalating Phazon crisis.
