Walkthrough - Phaaze

Welcome, bounty hunter, to Phaaze – the very heart of the Phazon corruption. This is it, the final frontier. Prepare for an intense journey through a hostile, ever-changing environment. Your objective is clear: destroy Dark Samus and eliminate the source of all Phazon.

Entering Phaaze

Upon landing on Phaaze, you'll immediately notice the oppressive atmosphere and the pervasive Phazon. Your Phazon Enhancement Device (PED) Suit will be constantly engaged, draining your energy. Conserve your Hypermode carefully, as Phazon will be your primary source of health and ammunition here.

  1. Phazon Core Chamber: From your landing point, proceed directly into the Phazon Core Chamber. This area is heavily guarded by Phazon-infused enemies.
  2. Navigating the Phazon: The environment itself is a hazard. Avoid direct contact with large Phazon pools where possible, as they will rapidly deplete your health even with the PED Suit active. Use your Grapple Lasso to swing across gaps or pull down obstacles.
  3. First Encounter: You'll face several advanced Phazon creatures. Utilize your Hypermode for maximum damage, but be mindful of your energy. Remember, defeated Phazon enemies will drop health and ammunition, which is crucial for survival on Phaaze.

The Phazon Tunnels

Beyond the initial chamber, you'll enter a series of winding Phazon Tunnels. These areas are characterized by narrow passages and sudden enemy ambushes.

  • Phazon Tentacles: Watch out for large Phazon Tentacles that emerge from walls and floors. A well-placed Missile or charged shot will temporarily stun them, allowing you to pass. Some can be destroyed permanently with repeated attacks.
  • Phazon Hoppers: These agile enemies will try to overwhelm you in tight spaces. Use your Lock-On feature and rapid-fire Beam attacks to dispatch them quickly before they can inflict significant damage.
  • Energy Tank Location: In a hidden alcove within the second set of Phazon Tunnels, use your X-Ray Visor to reveal a weak point in the wall. Blast it with a Power Bomb to uncover an Energy Tank. This will be invaluable for the battles ahead.

The Dark Samus Gauntlet

As you delve deeper, you'll encounter a series of rooms designed to test your combat prowess against Dark Samus's Phazon forces.

  1. Phazon Elite Room: This large, circular chamber will pit you against multiple Phazon Elites. Focus fire on one at a time, using Hypermode when their shields are down. Their attacks are powerful, so prioritize dodging.
  2. Environmental Hazards: Look for opportunities to use the environment to your advantage. Some Phazon structures can be destabilized with a well-aimed Charge Beam shot, creating temporary cover or damaging enemies.
  3. Missile Expansion: After clearing the Phazon Elite Room, ascend to the upper platform using your Screw Attack. There, you'll find a Missile Expansion hidden behind a destructible Phazon growth.

Confronting Dark Samus

The path will eventually lead you to the heart of Phaaze, where Dark Samus awaits. This is a multi-phase boss battle that will push your skills to their limit.

Phase 1: Aerial Assault

  • Dark Samus will primarily attack from the air, firing Phazon projectiles and attempting to ram you.
  • Strategy: Lock on and continuously fire your Plasma Beam. When she charges a large attack, activate Hypermode and unleash a barrage of Missiles. Dodge her ramming attacks by using your Boost Ball or quick strafes.
  • Weak Point: Her core will briefly glow blue after certain attacks. This is your window to deal significant damage.

Phase 2: Ground Combat

  • Dark Samus will land and engage you directly. She'll use powerful melee attacks and create Phazon pools.
  • Strategy: Maintain distance and continue firing. When she creates Phazon pools, use your Grapple Lasso to pull her out of them, stunning her briefly. This is another excellent opportunity for Hypermode attacks.
  • Phazon Spikes: Watch out for Phazon Spikes that erupt from the ground. Use your Morph Ball to quickly navigate around them.

Phase 3: Phazon Overload

  • In her final phase, Dark Samus will become heavily infused with Phazon, making her more aggressive and powerful.
  • Strategy: This phase requires constant Hypermode. Your regular attacks will do minimal damage. Focus on dodging her relentless attacks and unleashing continuous Hypermode Beam shots and Seeker Missiles.
  • Final Blow: When her health is critically low, she will become vulnerable to a final, sustained Hypermode attack. Keep firing until she is defeated.

Destroying the Phazon Core

With Dark Samus defeated, the Phazon Core will be exposed. This is your ultimate objective.

  1. Core Vulnerability: The Phazon Core is protected by a thick Phazon shell. You'll need to use your Hypermode Beam to chip away at it.
  2. Phazon Guardians: Even with Dark Samus gone, the Core will defend itself by spawning Phazon Guardians. Ignore them as much as possible and focus all your firepower on the Core.
  3. Final Attack: Once the shell is sufficiently weakened, the Core will glow intensely. Unleash a fully charged Hypermode Missile volley to deliver the final blow.
