Collectibles
Welcome, bounty hunter, to the comprehensive guide for uncovering every hidden secret and power-up in Metroid Prime 4: Beyond. This section details the location and acquisition strategy for all major collectibles, ensuring you leave no stone unturned on your journey through the treacherous alien worlds. Mastering these upgrades is crucial for overcoming the formidable challenges ahead.
Energy Tanks
Energy Tanks are vital for extending Samus's health bar, allowing her to withstand more damage from enemy attacks and environmental hazards. Each tank adds 100 units to your maximum energy.
- Energy Tank 1: Verdant Expanse - Hydroponics Lab
Upon entering the Hydroponics Lab from the Verdant Expanse Main Corridor, immediately look to your left. There's a small alcove behind some overgrown flora. Use your Scan Visor to reveal a weakened section of the wall. Deploy a Power Bomb to destroy it, revealing a hidden chamber with the Energy Tank.
- Energy Tank 2: Volcanic Core - Magma Flow Conduit
After acquiring the Gravity Suit, return to the Magma Flow Conduit. Dive into the molten river at the lowest level. Navigate through the submerged tunnel, avoiding the geysers of superheated plasma. The Energy Tank is located on a small, elevated platform at the end of this underwater passage. You'll need precise Boost Ball maneuvers to reach it.
- Energy Tank 3: Frozen Wastes - Glacial Chasm
From the Glacial Chasm's central platform, activate your Thermal Visor. You'll spot a series of invisible ice platforms leading across a wide gap to a distant ledge. Carefully jump across these platforms. Be wary of the patrolling Ice Troopers. The Energy Tank is nestled in a small ice cave at the end of the path.
Missile Expansions
Missile Expansions increase your maximum missile capacity by 5. Missiles are indispensable for opening red blast doors and dealing significant damage to bosses and heavily armored enemies.
- Missile Expansion 1: Arcanum Ruins - Sunken Temple
In the Sunken Temple, after draining the water from the main chamber, descend to the lowest level. There's a cracked wall on the eastern side. Use a Power Bomb to breach it. Inside, you'll find the Missile Expansion guarded by a swarm of Phazon Wasps.
- Missile Expansion 2: Bio-Research Facility - Contamination Zone
Access the Contamination Zone after obtaining the Hazard Shield. Navigate through the irradiated corridors until you reach a large cylindrical chamber with a central pillar. Look up; there's a small vent near the ceiling. Use your Grapple Beam to pull yourself up to the vent, then morph ball through it to a hidden room containing the expansion.
- Missile Expansion 3: Sky Temple - Celestial Observatory
Upon reaching the Celestial Observatory, activate the ancient console to align the celestial bodies. This will reveal a hidden platform high above the main observation deck. Use your Space Jump Boots to reach this platform. The Missile Expansion is located there, overlooking the vast expanse of space.
Power Bomb Expansions
Power Bomb Expansions add one additional Power Bomb to your arsenal. These devastating explosives are essential for destroying reinforced barriers and clearing out groups of enemies.
- Power Bomb Expansion 1: Phazon Mines - Elite Research Lab
Within the Elite Research Lab, locate the large containment unit housing the Phazon Elite. On the upper walkway surrounding this unit, there's a small, inconspicuous grate. Scan it to reveal its weakness. Use a Morph Ball Bomb to destroy the grate, then roll through the ventilation shaft to a hidden compartment containing the Power Bomb Expansion.
- Power Bomb Expansion 2: Ancient Citadel - Grand Archives
After acquiring the Spider Ball, return to the Grand Archives. On the western wall of the main archive chamber, there's a series of magnetic tracks. Activate your Spider Ball and carefully navigate these tracks to the ceiling. The Power Bomb Expansion is located on a small, hidden ledge at the very top of the chamber.
Artifacts of the Chozo
These ancient relics are crucial for unlocking the final confrontation. There are 12 Artifacts scattered across the galaxy, each requiring unique abilities to retrieve.
- Artifact of Strength: Verdant Expanse - Ancient Grove
Located deep within the Ancient Grove, past the overgrown ruins. You'll need the Plasma Beam to melt through a thick layer of crystalline amber blocking the path to a hidden cavern. The Artifact is at the center of this cavern, guarded by a dormant Chozo Guardian.
- Artifact of Wisdom: Volcanic Core - Lava Lake Depths
Requires the Gravity Suit and Screw Attack. Dive into the largest lava lake in the Volcanic Core. Navigate through the intense heat and submerged tunnels. The Artifact is in a small, shielded chamber accessible only by performing a precise Screw Attack through a weakened ceiling section.
- Artifact of Truth: Frozen Wastes - Sub-Zero Research Outpost
After restoring power to the Sub-Zero Research Outpost, access the main data core. Solve the environmental puzzle involving redirecting energy conduits to open a hidden cryogenic chamber. The Artifact is inside, encased in ice that can only be melted by the Wave Beam's superheated charge shot.
Logbook Entries (Data Scans)
While not direct power-ups, Logbook Entries provide invaluable lore, enemy weaknesses, and environmental information. Scan everything! Every enemy, every piece of Chozo technology, and every unique environmental feature can yield a new entry. Pay particular attention to:
- Elite Pirate Data: Phazon Mines - Elite Research Lab
Scan the Elite Pirate in its containment unit before engaging it. This provides crucial tactical information for future encounters.
- Chozo Lore Tablets: Arcanum Ruins - throughout the area
Numerous glowing tablets are scattered throughout the Arcanum Ruins. Each one offers a piece of the ancient Chozo civilization's history and their warnings about the Phazon threat.
- Environmental Anomaly: Bio-Research Facility - Contamination Zone
Scan the unique, pulsating Phazon growths within the Contamination Zone. These scans often reveal weaknesses or provide clues about the source of the contamination.
