Weapon & Suit Modifiers
In Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, Samus's arsenal and Power Suit are highly customizable through a system of Weapon and Suit Modifiers. These crucial upgrades can drastically alter your combat effectiveness, traversal capabilities, and defensive posture. Mastering their acquisition and application is key to surviving the hostile environments of the Alimbic Cluster and beyond.
Weapon Modifiers
Weapon Modifiers enhance Samus's Beam Weapons, Missiles, and other offensive tools. They can increase damage, alter projectile behavior, or add new tactical effects. Many are found in hidden caches or dropped by elite enemies.
Beam Enhancements
- Plasma Overcharge: Increases the fire rate and projectile speed of the Plasma Beam.
- Location: Found in the Thermo-Ventilation Chamber within the Volcanic Core on Aether. Requires the Spider Ball to navigate a narrow magnetic track to a hidden alcove.
- Strategy: After acquiring the Spider Ball, return to the Volcanic Core. Look for a series of magnetic rails on the western wall of the Thermo-Ventilation Chamber. Activate Spider Ball and carefully traverse the rails, avoiding steam vents, to reach a small platform with the upgrade.
- Wave Disruptor: Adds a small area-of-effect electrical discharge to charged Wave Beam shots, stunning nearby enemies.
- Location: Dropped by the Alpha Fission Metroid mini-boss in the Bio-Research Lab on Tallon IV.
- Strategy: This mini-boss is encountered after restoring power to the Bio-Research Lab. Focus on dodging its energy attacks and counter with charged Plasma Beam shots. Once defeated, the Wave Disruptor will be left behind.
- Ice Shard Projectiles: Modifies the Ice Beam to fire multiple smaller ice shards instead of a single large projectile, increasing the chance of freezing multiple targets.
- Location: Hidden behind a destructible ice wall in the Glacial Caverns on Phendrana Drifts. Requires a Power Bomb.
- Strategy: In the central chamber of the Glacial Caverns, look for a section of unusually thick ice on the northern wall. Deploy a Power Bomb nearby to shatter the ice, revealing a small passage leading to the upgrade.
Missile System Upgrades
- Seeker Missile Array: Allows Samus to lock onto up to five targets simultaneously with a single missile volley.
- Location: Located in the Missile Silo Delta on Elysia. Requires the Screw Attack to reach a high platform.
- Strategy: Navigate to Missile Silo Delta. Observe the high, seemingly unreachable platform in the center. Use the Screw Attack from the surrounding ledges to launch yourself up to the platform where the Seeker Missile Array is waiting.
- Concussion Detonator: Increases the blast radius and knockback effect of all Missiles.
- Location: Reward for completing the "Hive Suppression" bounty mission on Urtraghus.
- Strategy: Accept the bounty from any Federation outpost terminal. The mission involves clearing a large Phazon Hive in the Fungal Wastes. Be prepared for multiple waves of Phazon-mutated enemies and a final encounter with a Phazon Queen.
Suit Modifiers
Suit Modifiers enhance Samus's defensive capabilities, environmental resistances, and mobility. These are often critical for accessing new areas or surviving extreme conditions.
Defensive & Environmental Enhancements
- Hazard Shielding Mk. II: Provides enhanced resistance to corrosive environments and extreme temperatures (both hot and cold).
- Location: Found within the Contaminated Research Sector on Bryyo. Requires the Grapple Beam to cross a toxic chasm.
- Strategy: In the Contaminated Research Sector, you'll encounter a large gap filled with highly corrosive liquid. Use the Grapple Beam on the designated grapple points to swing across. The Hazard Shielding Mk. II is on the other side, often guarded by a few mutated Bryyo creatures.
- Kinetic Dampener: Reduces knockback from enemy attacks and environmental hazards.
- Location: Discovered in a hidden compartment in the Maintenance Tunnels of the G.F.S. Valhalla. Requires the Morph Ball Bomb.
- Strategy: In the Maintenance Tunnels, look for a section of weakened floor plating that can be destroyed by a Morph Ball Bomb. Drop into the hidden area below to find the Kinetic Dampener.
Mobility & Utility Upgrades
- Boost Ball Accelerator: Increases the speed and height of the Morph Ball's Boost Ball ability.
- Location: Located in the Ancient Temple Ruins on Zebes. Requires solving a complex Morph Ball puzzle involving multiple pressure plates and timed gates.
- Strategy: In the main chamber of the Ancient Temple Ruins, activate the initial pressure plate to open a timed gate. You'll need to quickly navigate a series of Morph Ball tunnels, activating subsequent plates to keep the path open. The Boost Ball Accelerator is at the end of this intricate sequence.
- Scan Visor Overlay: Enhances the Scan Visor to highlight weak points on enemies and environmental puzzles in a distinct color.
- Location: Automatically acquired after completing the tutorial mission on SR388 Outpost Alpha.
- Strategy: This is an early-game, essential upgrade. Simply complete the introductory objectives on SR388 Outpost Alpha, which primarily involve basic combat and environmental scanning.
