Post-Game Content

Congratulations, Hunter! You've successfully thwarted the latest galactic threat and brought peace (for now) to the cosmos. But Samus Aran's mission is never truly over, and neither is your journey in Metroid Prime 4: Beyond. The post-game offers a wealth of challenges, hidden secrets, and opportunities to truly master your arsenal. Prepare to delve deeper into the lore, uncover every last collectible, and face formidable foes that will test your skills to their absolute limit.

100% Item Completion

For the dedicated completionist, achieving 100% item acquisition is the ultimate goal. This involves tracking down every Missile Expansion, Energy Tank, Power Bomb Expansion, and hidden upgrade. Many of these require advanced techniques, keen observation, and often, a return to previously inaccessible areas with newly acquired abilities.

  • Missile Expansions: There are a total of 100 Missile Expansions scattered across the game's various planets and installations. Pay close attention to environmental cues, suspicious cracks in walls (use your Scan Visor!), and areas that seem just out of reach.
  • Energy Tanks: Boost your maximum health with the 14 Energy Tanks hidden throughout the game. Some are in plain sight but require a specific weapon or ability to access, while others are expertly concealed behind puzzles or difficult platforming segments.
  • Power Bomb Expansions: Increase your Power Bomb capacity with the 8 Power Bomb Expansions. These are often found in areas requiring the Morph Ball and Spider Ball to navigate complex mazes or destroy reinforced barriers.
  • Secret World Expansions: Beyond the standard upgrades, keep an eye out for Secret World Expansions. These rare pickups often unlock new lore entries in your Logbook or provide subtle stat boosts. A notable one is the Aetherian Archive Key, found in the Forgotten Archives on Planet Xylos, which grants access to a hidden data terminal detailing early Chozo experiments.

Strategy for Item Hunting:

  1. Scan Everything: Your Scan Visor is your best friend. Every suspicious object, unusual texture, or out-of-place structure should be scanned. The Logbook often provides hints about hidden passages or required abilities.
  2. Map Review: Regularly check your map for unexplored rooms or areas marked with question marks. These often indicate hidden paths or items. Use the map's filter options to highlight areas with remaining collectibles.
  3. Ability-Gated Areas: Many items are locked behind abilities you acquire later in the game. Make a mental note (or better yet, use the in-game marker system) of areas you couldn't access initially and return to them once you have the appropriate upgrade (e.g., Grapple Beam for distant ledges, Plasma Beam for ice barriers, Screw Attack for breaking specific blocks).
  4. Boss Rematches: Some optional boss encounters, particularly those found in the Phazon Corruptions of Tallon IV, can yield unique upgrades or open paths to previously inaccessible item rooms.

Challenge Modes & New Game+

Once you've completed the main story, several new game modes become available, offering fresh ways to experience Metroid Prime 4: Beyond.

  • Hard Mode / Hypermode: For players seeking a true test of skill, these difficulty settings significantly increase enemy health and damage output, while reducing the availability of health and missile drops. Hypermode, in particular, introduces new enemy attack patterns and environmental hazards.
  • New Game+: Start a fresh playthrough with all your acquired weapons, suit upgrades, and Logbook entries carried over from your completed save. This is perfect for speedrunning, exploring alternative paths, or simply enjoying the story again with maximum power from the outset. Note that certain story-gated abilities (e.g., Morph Ball access) will still need to be re-acquired at their narrative points.
  • Boss Rush Mode: Accessible from the main menu after completing the game, this mode pits you against all the major bosses in sequence, with limited health and missile refills between encounters. Successfully completing Boss Rush on various difficulty settings can unlock exclusive cosmetic rewards for Samus's suit.

Lore & Logbook Completion

Beyond the action, Metroid Prime 4: Beyond boasts a rich narrative and expansive lore. Completing your Logbook by scanning every creature, object, and piece of Chozo or Federation technology provides deeper insights into the game's universe.

  • Creature Entries: Ensure you've scanned every variant of enemy, including their elite or corrupted forms. Some rare creatures only appear in specific, often hidden, locations or during certain post-game events. For instance, the Phazon Leviathan Spawn can only be found in the deepest parts of the Impact Crater after the main story concludes.
  • Research & Data Entries: Look for data terminals, ancient glyphs, and Federation logs. Many of these are subtly placed and require careful exploration. The Chozo Lore Tablets on Elysia, for example, reveal ancient prophecies and the true purpose of the planet's atmospheric processors.
  • Secret Lore: Some lore entries are tied to specific actions or discoveries. For example, fully exploring the Quarantine Sector on the G.F.S. Valhalla after the final boss can reveal hidden data logs detailing the Federation's experimental weapon programs.

Embrace the challenge, explore every nook and cranny, and uncover all the secrets Metroid Prime 4: Beyond has to offer. The galaxy awaits your complete mastery!
