Parasite Queen

Your very first encounter, the Parasite Queen, serves as an introduction to boss mechanics. While not overly challenging, it's a good warm-up for what's to come.

  • Location: Reactor Core, Space Pirate Frigate Orpheon.
  • Recommended Equipment: Power Beam.
  • Strategy:
    1. The Parasite Queen is encased in a protective shell. Your initial shots will do no damage.
    2. Observe the Queen's attack pattern: she will fire energy projectiles from her mouth.
    3. Wait for her to open her mouth to fire. This is your window of opportunity.
    4. Charge your Power Beam and fire directly into her open mouth. A charged shot will deal significant damage.
    5. After taking damage, she will briefly recoil. Continue to dodge her projectiles and repeat the charged shot strategy.
    6. As her health depletes, the Queen may increase the frequency of her attacks. Stay mobile and prioritize dodging.
    7. There are no specific item drops from this boss, but defeating her will allow you to proceed through the Frigate.

Hive Mecha

This mechanical monstrosity guards the entrance to the Chozo Ruins. It's a test of precision and environmental awareness.

  • Location: Hive Totem, Chozo Ruins.
  • Recommended Equipment: Power Beam, Missiles.
  • Strategy:
    1. The Hive Mecha itself is invulnerable to direct attacks. Its weakness lies in the Ram War Wasps it deploys.
    2. The Mecha will periodically open its central chamber, releasing a swarm of Ram War Wasps.
    3. Target the Ram War Wasps as they emerge. A single charged Power Beam shot or a Missile will destroy them instantly.
    4. Each destroyed Ram War Wasp will drop a Missile or Energy pickup. Collect these to replenish your resources.
    5. After destroying several waves of Wasps, the Hive Mecha will expose its core, glowing brightly.
    6. This is your chance to attack the core directly. Unleash a volley of Missiles for maximum damage. The more Missiles you have, the faster this phase will go.
    7. The Mecha will then close its core and repeat the process of releasing Wasps.
    8. Be mindful of the Mecha's other attacks: it can fire energy blasts and attempt to stomp you. Use your Morph Ball to quickly evade these.
    9. Repeat the cycle of destroying Wasps and attacking the core until the Hive Mecha is defeated.

Flaahgra

This mutated plant is a formidable early-game challenge, requiring careful timing and use of your Morph Ball.

  • Location: Flaahgra's Nest, Chozo Ruins.
  • Recommended Equipment: Power Beam, Morph Ball, Morph Ball Bombs.
  • Strategy:
    1. Flaahgra is powered by four large solar reflectors around the arena. Your primary goal is to disable these.
    2. Flaahgra will attack with its massive tentacles, slamming them down or sweeping them across the platform. Use your Space Jump Boots to avoid these attacks.
    3. When Flaahgra slams a tentacle onto the platform, it will temporarily expose a glowing weak point on its base. Fire charged Power Beam shots at this weak point.
    4. After taking enough damage, Flaahgra will recoil, and one of the solar reflectors will briefly retract.
    5. Immediately roll into your Morph Ball and quickly navigate to the retracted reflector. Drop a Morph Ball Bomb on the switch to lock the reflector in place.
    6. Repeat this process for all four reflectors. Flaahgra will become more aggressive as you disable more reflectors, and the time window to bomb the switches will shrink.
    7. Once all four reflectors are locked, Flaahgra will be fully exposed and vulnerable.
    8. Roll into the central drain in the arena in Morph Ball form. You will fall into a tunnel system beneath Flaahgra.
    9. Navigate through the tunnels to reach the central chamber directly beneath Flaahgra.
    10. Drop multiple Morph Ball Bombs directly onto Flaahgra's roots. This is its true weak point.
    11. Flaahgra will thrash violently and eventually be defeated.
    12. Upon defeat, you will gain the Varia Suit, which protects you from extreme heat.
