Glitches & Exploits

While Metroid Prime Remastered is a polished experience, a few quirks and exploits from the original game have made their way into this version. These can be used for speedrunning, sequence breaking, or simply to gain an advantage. Use them at your own discretion, as some may lead to unexpected behavior or soft locks if not executed carefully.

Space Jump Guardian Skip (Early Boost Ball)

This exploit allows you to bypass the Space Jump Boots Guardian in the Chozo Ruins, granting you the Boost Ball much earlier than intended. This can significantly alter your early-game progression.

  • Required Items: Morph Ball, Bombs.
  • Location: Chozo Ruins - Main Plaza, leading to the Ruined Shrine.
  • Strategy:
    1. Proceed through the Chozo Ruins until you reach the Main Plaza.
    2. Locate the large half-pipe structure that normally requires the Boost Ball to ascend.
    3. Morph into a Ball and position yourself at the very edge of one of the ramps, facing the opposite side.
    4. Drop a Bomb, and just as it explodes, quickly press the Morph Ball jump button.
    5. Immediately after the first jump, drop another Bomb and jump again. The timing is crucial here; you need to be propelled by the second bomb's explosion while still gaining height from the first.
    6. With precise timing, you can gain enough height to reach the ledge on the opposite side, effectively bypassing the need for the Boost Ball to traverse the half-pipe.
    7. Once on the ledge, proceed through the door to the Ruined Shrine and collect the Boost Ball.
  • Benefits: Access to Boost Ball early, allowing for faster traversal and opening up new areas sooner.
  • Risks: Can be difficult to execute consistently. Failure to land on the ledge may require multiple attempts.

Wave Beam Through Walls (Early Artifacts/Items)

This glitch allows you to fire the Wave Beam through certain thin walls or environmental objects, potentially hitting targets or activating mechanisms on the other side. This is particularly useful for collecting early Chozo Artifacts or activating switches.

  • Required Items: Wave Beam.
  • Location: Various locations with thin walls or grates, such as the Phazon Mines or Phendrana Drifts.
  • Strategy:
    1. Equip the Wave Beam.
    2. Locate a thin wall, grate, or other permeable environmental object that has a target or item behind it. Good examples include the grates in some Phazon Mines areas that hide missile expansions, or the thin walls near certain Chozo Artifacts.
    3. Position Samus as close as possible to the wall.
    4. Aim your Wave Beam directly at the wall where you believe the target or item is located.
    5. Fire the Wave Beam. With correct positioning and aiming, the beam can sometimes clip through the geometry and hit the intended target.
  • Benefits: Can acquire Missile Expansions, Energy Tanks, or even certain Chozo Artifacts earlier than intended, bypassing puzzles or combat encounters.
  • Risks: Not all walls are permeable, and finding the precise angle can be challenging. May require trial and error.

Infinite Missile/Energy Tank Refill (Save Station Exploit)

This exploit allows you to repeatedly refill your Missiles and Energy Tanks without consuming any pickups, by abusing the game's save mechanics.

  • Required Items: Any Save Station.
  • Location: Any Save Station in the game.
  • Strategy:
    1. Locate a Save Station.
    2. Ensure your Missiles and/or Energy Tanks are not full.
    3. Enter the Save Station and initiate a save.
    4. Once the save is complete, immediately exit the Save Station.
    5. Re-enter the Save Station. You will find that your Missiles and Energy Tanks have been fully refilled.
    6. Repeat steps 3-5 as many times as needed to top off your resources.
  • Benefits: Unlimited Missiles and Energy, making tough boss fights or challenging areas significantly easier. Saves time searching for pickups.
  • Risks: None, this is a safe and reliable exploit.

Boost Ball Jump (Advanced Movement)

While not strictly a glitch, the Boost Ball Jump is an advanced movement technique that allows for greater verticality and horizontal distance in Morph Ball form, often used for sequence breaking or reaching hidden areas without specific upgrades.

  • Required Items: Morph Ball, Boost Ball.
  • Location: Any area accessible in Morph Ball form.
  • Strategy:
    1. Morph into a Ball.
    2. Initiate a Boost Ball charge (hold the Boost Ball button).
    3. Just as the Boost Ball is about to release, press the Morph Ball jump button.
    4. With precise timing, Samus will perform a significantly higher and longer jump than a standard Morph Ball jump, often allowing her to clear gaps or reach ledges that would otherwise require the Space Jump Boots or Spider Ball.
  • Benefits: Allows for early access to certain areas, skips environmental puzzles, and can be used for speedrunning.
  • Risks: Requires practice to master the timing. Misjudging a jump can lead to falling into hazards or backtracking.
