Acquiring the Gravity Suit
The Gravity Suit is one of the most transformative upgrades Samus can acquire in Metroid Prime Remastered, fundamentally changing how you navigate Tallon IV. This essential suit upgrade grants Samus the ability to move freely and without resistance through water, eliminating the cumbersome slowdown previously experienced. Furthermore, and critically, it provides complete immunity to the damaging effects of Phazon radiation, allowing access to previously impassable areas and protecting Samus from the hazardous environments of the Phazon Mines.
Location and Prerequisites
The Gravity Suit is located deep within the treacherous Phazon Mines, specifically in the Phazon Core. To reach it, you will need several key upgrades:
- Plasma Beam: Essential for melting specific Bendezium doors found throughout the Phazon Mines, and for dealing significant damage to armored enemies and the Omega Pirate boss.
- Power Bombs: Required to destroy certain large obstacles, clear debris, and activate mechanisms like the crane in Main Quarry, opening paths forward.
- Grapple Beam: Necessary for traversing large gaps, swinging across chasms, and reaching elevated platforms that are otherwise inaccessible.
- Thermal Visor: Crucial for navigating dark areas, revealing hidden power conduits, and identifying cloaked enemies or mechanisms in the Phazon Mines. It is also vital for the Omega Pirate boss battle.
- X-Ray Visor: While not strictly required for the Gravity Suit itself, it is invaluable for navigating the later sections of the Phazon Mines by revealing hidden passages and weak points on enemies. Critically, it is essential for identifying the Omega Pirate's weak points during its boss battle.
Step-by-Step Acquisition Guide
Acquiring the Gravity Suit involves a significant journey through the Phazon Mines, culminating in a challenging boss battle against the Omega Pirate. Follow these detailed steps:
- Entering the Phazon Mines:
- Access the Phazon Mines from the Tallon Overworld West area.
- Locate the Mines Access tunnel and proceed through it to enter the Phazon Mines.
- Navigating through Phazon Mines Level 1:
- Main Quarry: Upon entering, you'll be in the Main Quarry. Use a Power Bomb near the large, inactive crane to destroy the debris blocking its mechanism. Then, locate the console on the ground level and activate it to move the crane, creating a new path.
- Security Access A: Proceed through this area, dispatching any Space Pirates.
- Mine Security Station: This room often contains Elite Pirates. Use your Plasma Beam to quickly eliminate them.
- Research Lab Aether: Continue through the various mining areas, using the Grapple Beam to cross chasms.
- Elite Research: In this large chamber, you will encounter multiple Elite Pirates. These are heavily armored foes; use charged Plasma Beam shots or Super Missiles for efficient takedowns. Note: The Omega Pirate boss is a distinct entity and is not encountered here; these are Elite Pirates.
- Reaching Phazon Mines Level 2:
- From Elite Research, continue deeper into the mines until you find the elevator leading to Phazon Mines Level 2.
- This level introduces more advanced Space Pirate technology and tougher enemies, including Wave and Plasma Troopers.
- Central Dynamo: You'll need to navigate through areas like the Central Dynamo. Here, you'll often encounter inactive power conduits. Switch to your Thermal Visor to reveal the hidden power lines and activate the conduits by shooting them with your Power Beam to restore power and open doors. Look for conduits typically located on walls or ceilings, often obscured by darkness.
- Continue through Level 2, fighting through various Pirate types, until you locate the elevator to Level 3.
- Journey to Phazon Mines Level 3 (Fungal Cave):
- From Level 2, take the elevator down to Phazon Mines Level 3. This area is characterized by heavy Phazon contamination and unique flora.
- You will traverse the Fargate and eventually reach the Fargate Access leading to the Fargate Chamber.
- The path to the Gravity Suit lies beyond the Fargate Chamber, specifically through the Phazon Processing Center. Be prepared for increased Phazon exposure and tougher enemies.
- Continue through the Phazon Processing Center until you reach the Phazon Core Access.
- The Omega Pirate Boss Battle:
- The Gravity Suit is located in the Phazon Core, but it is guarded by the formidable Omega Pirate. Enter the arena from Phazon Core Access.
- Boss Strategy - Omega Pirate:
- The Omega Pirate is a formidable foe, heavily armored and powered by Phazon. It has four Phazon-infused weak points on its shoulders and knees.
- Phase 1 (Cloaked): The Omega Pirate will initially be cloaked and invulnerable to conventional attacks. Immediately switch to your X-Ray Visor. This will reveal its four glowing Phazon weak points (two on the shoulders, two on the knees). Target these with charged Plasma Beam shots or Super Missiles. Destroy all four weak points.
- Phase 2 (Vulnerable & Regeneration): After destroying all four weak points, the Omega Pirate will become vulnerable. It will periodically teleport around the arena and attempt to regenerate its Phazon armor by drawing power from the four Phazon pools (Phazon Hoppers) in the arena.
- Critical Strategy: When the Omega Pirate attempts to regenerate, quickly switch back to your X-Ray Visor. You will see a glowing Phazon core on its chest. This is its true weak point. Unleash a barrage of Missiles and charged Plasma Beam shots into this core before it fully regenerates its armor. If it regenerates, you'll need to repeat Phase 1.
- Avoidance: Dodge its ground pounds, energy waves, and projectile attacks. Use your Boost Ball to quickly evade its charges and area-of-effect attacks. The Phazon Hoppers can also spawn Space Pirates; eliminate these quickly to avoid being overwhelmed.
- Repeat: Continue to destroy its weak points with the X-Ray Visor, then target its core during regeneration phases until it is defeated. This battle requires quick visor switching and precise aiming.
- Claiming the Gravity Suit:
- Once the Omega Pirate is vanquished, the force field surrounding the Gravity Suit will dissipate.
- Proceed into the Phazon Core and collect the Gravity Suit.

Impact and New Opportunities
With the Gravity Suit equipped, Samus gains significant advantages, opening up vast new areas and preparing her for the ultimate confrontation with the source of the Phazon corruption:
- Underwater Mobility: Explore previously inaccessible underwater sections of Tallon IV, such as those in Chozo Ruins and Phendrana Drifts, with complete freedom. This often leads to new Missile Expansions, Energy Tanks, and lore entries.
- Phazon Immunity: Traverse Phazon-contaminated areas without taking damage, which is crucial for further exploration of the Phazon Mines and accessing the final areas of the game. This includes walking through shallow Phazon pools that were previously damaging.
- Enhanced Defense: While primarily focused on environmental resistance, the Gravity Suit also offers a slight increase in overall damage resistance, making Samus more resilient in combat.
