Puzzle Solutions
Metroid Prime Remastered features several environmental puzzles that require Samus's unique abilities and keen observation to overcome. This section details solutions to some of the more challenging or commonly misunderstood puzzles you'll encounter on Tallon IV.
Ruined Shrine Spider Ball Track
Located in the Ruined Shrine in Chozo Ruins, this puzzle requires precise timing and understanding of the Spider Ball's magnetic properties to access a Missile Expansion.
- Location: Chozo Ruins, Ruined Shrine.
- Required Items: Spider Ball, Morph Ball Bomb.
- Walkthrough:
- Enter the Ruined Shrine and locate the half-pipe structure.
- Use the Morph Ball to gain momentum in the half-pipe and reach the Spider Ball track on the wall.
- Once on the track, proceed along it until you reach a section with a breakable block.
- Carefully place a Morph Ball Bomb on the breakable block. This will destroy it, revealing a hidden path.
- Continue along the newly opened Spider Ball track. You'll need to navigate a short, winding path.
- At the end of this track, you'll find the Missile Expansion.
- Strategy Tip: Don't rush the bomb placement. Ensure Samus is stable on the track before deploying the bomb to avoid falling.
Magmoor Caverns Lava Lift
Navigating the fiery depths of Magmoor Caverns often involves manipulating the environment. The Lava Lift puzzle in the Geothermal Core is a prime example, requiring the use of thermal energy to activate a platform.
- Location: Magmoor Caverns, Geothermal Core.
- Required Items: Thermal Visor, Power Beam.
- Walkthrough:
- Upon entering the Geothermal Core, you'll notice a large, inactive platform suspended over the lava.
- Activate your Thermal Visor. Look around the chamber for several glowing conduits embedded in the walls.
- These conduits are heat regulators. You need to shoot them with your Power Beam to activate them. There are typically three or four such conduits in the room.
- Once all the thermal conduits are activated (they will glow brighter and emit a steady stream of heat), the large platform in the center of the room will begin to descend, creating a path across the lava.
- Carefully jump onto the now-active platform and ride it to the other side of the chamber, gaining access to new areas.
- Strategy Tip: Some conduits might be partially obscured or located on higher ledges. Use your scan visor to pinpoint their exact locations if you're having trouble finding them all.
Phendrana Drifts Ice Beam Door
The frigid landscapes of Phendrana Drifts present challenges that often involve the manipulation of ice. One such puzzle involves a frozen door that requires a specific weapon to bypass.
- Location: Phendrana Drifts, Research Lab Aether (or similar frozen door locations).
- Required Items: Plasma Beam.
- Walkthrough:
- You will encounter certain doors in Phendrana Drifts that are encased in a thick layer of ice, making them impervious to the Power Beam or even the Wave Beam.
- Once you have acquired the Plasma Beam (typically found later in the game), return to these frozen doors.
- Charge your Plasma Beam and fire a charged shot directly at the ice-encased door.
- The intense heat from the Plasma Beam will melt the ice, allowing the door to open and grant you access to the next area.
- Strategy Tip: Always be on the lookout for environmental cues. Frozen obstacles often hint at the need for a heat-based weapon.
