Introduction
Welcome, bounty hunter, to our comprehensive guide for Metroid: Zero Mission! This guide is designed to help you navigate the treacherous planet Zebes, overcome its formidable challenges, and ultimately defeat the Space Pirates and their leader, Mother Brain. Whether you're a seasoned Metroid veteran or a newcomer to Samus Aran's legendary first mission, this walkthrough will provide you with the strategies and insights needed to achieve 100% completion.
Getting Started
Upon starting a new game, you'll be dropped directly into the action on Planet Zebes. Samus begins with her basic Power Beam and a limited supply of Missiles. Your immediate goal is to explore the initial areas of Crateria and Brinstar to acquire essential upgrades that will allow you to progress deeper into the planet's labyrinthine depths.
Initial Objectives & Item Locations
Follow these steps to get a solid start on your mission:
- Crateria - Landing Site: You begin at your Gunship. Familiarize yourself with the controls. Head right from your ship.
- Crateria - First Room: Continue right. You'll encounter your first enemies, the lowly Zoomers. Practice your aiming and movement.
- Crateria - Elevator to Brinstar: Proceed through a few more rooms, dispatching enemies as you go. You'll soon reach a long vertical shaft with an elevator at the bottom. Take this elevator down to Brinstar.
-
Brinstar - First Missile Tank:
- Once in Brinstar, head left from the elevator.
- You'll enter a large room with several platforms.
- Look for a small alcove on the upper-left side of this room.
- Shoot the blocks blocking the path to reveal your first Missile Tank. This increases your Missile capacity by 5.
-
Brinstar - Morph Ball:
- From the Missile Tank, head right, past the elevator, and continue right through the next few rooms.
- You'll eventually reach a room with a large, glowing Chozo Statue.
- Approach the statue to acquire the Morph Ball. This crucial ability allows Samus to curl into a small ball, accessing narrow passages.
-
Brinstar - Second Missile Tank:
- Immediately after acquiring the Morph Ball, use your new ability to roll into the small tunnel directly beneath the Chozo Statue.
- Follow this tunnel to find another Missile Tank.
Key Strategies for Early Game
- Scan Everything: While there's no dedicated scan visor, pay attention to your surroundings. Suspicious blocks, crumbling platforms, or unusual wall textures often hide secrets or pathways.
- Conserve Missiles (Initially): Early on, Missiles are a precious resource. Use your Power Beam for most enemies and save Missiles for destructible blocks that require them or tougher mini-bosses.
- Practice Wall Jumping: Though not immediately required, mastering the wall jump (jump against a wall, then jump again while holding the opposite direction) will be essential for reaching many hidden areas and progressing later in the game. Practice in vertical shafts when possible.
- Energy Tanks are Priority: Always prioritize collecting Energy Tanks. These significantly increase your maximum health, making encounters much more manageable.
With the Morph Ball in hand and a couple of Missile Tanks under your belt, you're now ready to delve deeper into Brinstar and uncover more of Zebes' secrets. Remember to save frequently at Save Stations!
