How to Beat Elder Guardian
The Elder Guardian is a formidable boss mob found in Ocean Monuments, serving as the guardian of these underwater structures. Unlike its smaller counterparts, the Elder Guardian is sificantly larger, more powerful, and possesses a unique 'Mining Fatigue' effect that hinders players' ability to mine underwater. Defeating it is essential for clearing Ocean Monuments and obtaining valuable loot, including Prismarine Shards and Prismarine Crystals.
Before confronting the Elder Guardian, preparation is key. equip themselves with a full set of Iron or Diamond armor, ideally enchanted with Respiration and Aqua Affinity to improve underwater breathing and mining speed. A weapon with Sharpness is also recommended. Potions of Water Breathing and Night Vision are invaluable for maintaining visibility and extending your underwater time. Bringing a Sponge is also highly advisable, as it can be used to clear out water from the monument, making the fight more manageable.
Ocean Monuments are typically found in deep ocean biomes. Once you locate one, you'll need to navigate its maze-like corridors, which are patrolled by smaller, regular Guardians. These smaller Guardians can be dealt with using a bow or by engaging them in close combat. The Elder Guardian itself is usually found in one of the central chambers of the monument. There can be up to three Elder Guardians in a single monument, and they will despawn after a set period if not killed, making it crucial to act quickly.
The primary challenge posed by the Elder Guardian, aside from its direct attacks, is the Mining Fatigue III effect it inflicts on players within a certain radius. This effect drastically slows down mining speed, making it difficult to break blocks quickly to escape or create pathways. To counter this, You can either kill the Elder Guardian swiftly or use Potions of Water Breathing to stay submerged for longer periods, allowing them to mine through the monument's Prismarine blocks.
When engaging the Elder Guardian, focus on its attack patterns. It can charge at players and deal damage, and it also fires a 'Prismarine Shard' projectile. The most sificant threat is the Mining Fatigue effect. If you have Sponges, you can use them to clear out water from sections of the monument, creating air pockets and reducing the area the Elder Guardian can effectively patrol. This also makes it easier to fight without the constant threat of drowning or being disoriented by water.
A common strategy is to lure the Elder Guardian into a more confined area where you can focus your attacks. If you have a Potion of Night Vision, use it to maintain clear sight. Keep an eye on your breath meter and use Potions of Water Breathing as needed. Once the Elder Guardian is defeated, it will drop Prismarine Shards, Prismarine Crystals, and sometimes a Sponge. The Mining Fatigue effect will also dissipate.
After defeating all Elder Guardians in a monument, the structure is considered 'cleared.' The remaining Prismarine blocks can be mined for resources, and the monument can be repurposed as a base or a source of renewable resources like Prismarine. Remember, patience and preparation are key to successfully overcoming the Elder Guardian and conquering the Ocean Monument.
