How to Beat Guardian (Ocean Monument)

Tackle Minecraft's Ocean Monument Guardians with this guide. Learn their laser attack weakness and how to defeat the Elder Guardian.

How to Beat Guardian (Ocean Monument)

Ocean Monuments are imposing underwater structures guarded by formidable foes: Guardians. These aquatic adversaries can be a sificant challenge, especially in large numbers. This guide will equip you with the knowledge and strategies needed to successfully navigate and conquer an Ocean Monument, ensuring you can claim its treasures without succumbing to the depths.

Guardians are the primary inhabitants of Ocean Monuments. They are hostile mobs that attack with a powerful laser beam. This beam can deal sificant damage and inflict the 'Mining Fatigue' status effect, which slows down your block breaking speed. This effect is particularly problematic when trying to mine the monument's blocks or escape. Guardians have a unique attack pattern: they hover and charge their laser before firing. They are also immune to most projectile attacks due to their watery environment, making melee combat or specialized strategies essential.

Before venturing into an Ocean Monument, preparation is key. Ensure you have a good supply of Potions of Water Breathing and Potions of Night Vision. These will be invaluable for maintaining visibility and breath underwater. Enchanted armor, especially with Protection and Aqua Affinity (to increase underwater mining speed), is highly recommended. A weapon with the Sharpness enchantment will also be beneficial for dealing maximum melee damage. Consider bringing a Conduit, if you have access to one, as it provides unlimited water breathing and night vision within its range, making the entire monument explorable with ease.

When engaging Guardians, try to fight them one on one if possible. Lure them away from the main monument structure to a more manageable combat arena. If you have a shield, it can block their laser beam, but it will still consume durability. The most effective strategy is often to get close and engage in melee combat. Dodge their laser attacks by strafing or swimming erratically. If you are struggling with the Mining Fatigue effect, consider bringing a Sponge to clear out water and reduce the number of Guardians you need to fight simultaneously. Sponges can be found in Ocean Monuments themselves, often in dedicated rooms.

Defeating the Elder Guardian, the boss of the Ocean Monument, requires a similar approach but on a larger scale. It has a much more potent Mining Fatigue effect and can summon more Guardians. Focus on dealing damage quickly while managing its attacks and the surrounding mobs. Once defeated, it drops valuable items and removes the Mining Fatigue effect from the player.
