Companions and Allies

While Miscreated is primarily a survival game focused on solo or small-group scavenging, the world isn't entirely devoid of potential allies. Understanding how to interact with and, in some cases, recruit NPCs can significantly alter your survival strategy. This section details the various types of companions and allies you might encounter, how to gain their trust, and the benefits they offer.

Temporary Allies: Scavengers and Traders

Throughout the irradiated landscapes of Miscreated, you'll occasionally stumble upon other survivors who aren't immediately hostile. These individuals, often found near abandoned settlements or makeshift camps, can be categorized as temporary allies.

  • Scavengers: These NPCs are typically found rummaging through debris or guarding small stashes. Approaching them cautiously is key.
    • Interaction: Do not approach with a weapon drawn. Holster your weapon (default key: 'X') and slowly walk towards them. A prompt to "Talk" (default key: 'F') will appear.
    • Quests/Favors: Scavengers often have simple requests, such as finding a specific item (e.g., "Clean Water Bottle," "Can of Tuna") or clearing out a small group of mutants from a nearby area. Completing these tasks will improve their disposition towards you.
    • Rewards: Successful completion of a favor usually grants you a small amount of Scrap Metal, Cloth, or sometimes even a low-tier weapon like a Pipe Shotgun or a Machete. More importantly, they become less likely to attack you on sight in the future.
    • Locations: Look for scavengers in areas like the abandoned houses in Pinecrest, the outskirts of Sultan (especially near the gas station), or the dilapidated buildings around Brightmoor.
  • Traders: These are more established NPCs, often found in fortified positions or larger, more permanent camps. They offer a more reliable source of goods and services.
    • Interaction: Similar to scavengers, approach traders with your weapon holstered. They are generally less aggressive but can still turn hostile if provoked.
    • Bartering: Traders operate on a barter system. They will accept common resources like Scrap Metal, Nails, Wood Planks, and even certain food items in exchange for their wares.
    • Available Goods: Traders often stock essential survival items such as Bandages, Painkillers, Canned Food, Water Bottles, and sometimes even basic weapon attachments like a Red Dot Sight or a Suppressor. Their inventory refreshes periodically.
    • Locations: The most reliable trader can be found at the Junkyard Settlement located east of Pinecrest. Another smaller trader outpost sometimes spawns near the Lighthouse on the western coast.

Recruitable Companions: The Lone Wolf

A rare and invaluable ally you can encounter is the "Lone Wolf" NPC. These are unique individuals who, once befriended, can be recruited to follow and assist you in combat and resource gathering.

  • Finding the Lone Wolf: The Lone Wolf is not a static spawn. They typically appear in high-risk, high-reward areas such as the Military Base in the north, the Underground Bunker near Sultan, or sometimes even deep within the Irradiated Zone. They are often engaged in combat with mutants or other hostile NPCs when you first encounter them.
  • Gaining Trust:
    1. Intervention: The most common way to initiate interaction is to assist them in a fight. Engage the enemies attacking the Lone Wolf and ensure their survival.
    2. Healing: Once the immediate threat is neutralized, approach them with a Medical Kit or Bandages in your inventory. A prompt to "Offer Aid" will appear. Providing medical assistance significantly boosts their trust.
    3. Resource Exchange: After healing, they might ask for a specific item, often a weapon or a rare resource like Military Grade Components or High-Caliber Ammunition. Fulfilling this request is the final step to recruitment.
  • Recruitment and Commands: Once trust is established, a "Recruit" option will appear. Upon recruitment, the Lone Wolf will follow you.
    • Follow/Stay: Use the command wheel (default key: 'G') to issue basic commands like "Follow" or "Stay."
    • Aggression Modes: You can toggle their aggression between "Defensive" (they only attack if you are attacked) and "Aggressive" (they will engage any hostile target within range).
    • Inventory: The Lone Wolf has a limited inventory. You can equip them with weapons and armor you find. Prioritize giving them a reliable firearm (e.g., AR-15, AK-47) and protective gear like a Military Vest or Helmet.
  • Benefits of a Companion:
    • Increased Firepower: A well-equipped Lone Wolf can significantly boost your combat effectiveness, especially against groups of mutants or other players.
    • Distraction: They can draw enemy fire, allowing you to flank or reload safely.
    • Resource Carrying: Their inventory can be used to carry extra loot, extending your scavenging runs.
    • Base Defense: If you have a player-built base, you can command your companion to "Guard" a specific area, providing an extra layer of defense against raiders or mutants.
  • Companion Management:
    • Health: Companions can take damage and be knocked unconscious. You can revive them with a Medical Kit or Bandages. If they die, they are gone permanently.
    • Hunger/Thirst: Companions do not require food or water, simplifying their management.
    • Pathfinding: Be mindful of their pathfinding, especially in complex terrain or tight spaces. They can sometimes get stuck, requiring you to issue "Follow" commands repeatedly or clear their path.

Remember, the world of Miscreated is harsh, and even allies can be lost. Treat your companions well, and they will prove to be invaluable assets in your struggle for survival.
