Upon starting a new game, you'll be prompted to create your Hunter, Palamute, and Palico. While cosmetic changes can be made later at the Item Box (Hunter) or Buddy Board (Companions), your initial choices define their starting appearance. There are no 'classes' in Monster Hunter Rise; your playstyle is defined by the weapon you choose. Your companions, however, do have distinct roles:
Hunter Customization:
- Appearance: Choose gender, face, hair, voice, and various other cosmetic options.
- Name: Give your hunter a unique name.
Palamute Customization:
- Appearance: Select fur patterns, colors, and accessories.
- Name: Name your loyal canine companion.
- Gear: Palamutes can equip different gear that changes their appearance and provides minor stat boosts.
Palico Customization:
- Appearance: Choose fur patterns, colors, and accessories.
- Name: Name your feline friend.
- Support Type: This is crucial! Palicos come in various support types (e.g., Healer, Fighter, Gatherer) which dictate their primary abilities in a hunt. Choose one that complements your playstyle.
- Gear: Palicos can equip different gear that changes their appearance and provides minor stat boosts.
You can recruit additional Palamutes and Palicos later at the Buddy Plaza, allowing you to experiment with different support types.
