Quest Types & Objectives

Monster Hunter Rise offers a diverse array of quests, each with unique objectives and challenges. Understanding these quest types is crucial for efficient hunting and progression. This guide will break down the primary quest categories, offering actionable strategies and tips to ensure your success in Kamura Village and beyond.

Village Quests (Single Player)

These quests are the backbone of your solo journey, progressing the main story and unlocking new features. They are typically less challenging than Hub Quests and are a great way to learn monster patterns and weapon mechanics.

  • Key Quests: Marked with a red icon, these quests must be completed to advance your Hunter Rank (HR) and unlock Urgent Quests. Prioritize these to progress the story.
  • Urgent Quests: These are critical story missions that act as rank-up exams. Successfully completing an Urgent Quest will increase your Hunter Rank and unlock higher-tier quests.
  • Optional Quests: These quests offer additional rewards, materials, and sometimes unlock new Dango recipes, facilities, or endemic life. While not mandatory for story progression, they are highly recommended for gathering resources and expanding your options.

Strategy for Village Quests:

For early Village Quests, focus on:

  1. Gear Preparation: Ensure your weapon is upgraded to at least the current tier available at the Smithy. Craft basic armor sets like the Izuchi or Kulu-Ya-Ku sets for decent defense and early skills.
  2. Item Loadout: Always bring Potions, Mega Potions, Whetstones, Dung Bombs (for escaping pinned situations or monster turf wars), and Shock Traps or Pitfall Traps if you plan to capture.
  3. Endemic Life Utilization: Actively collect Spiribirds at the start of each quest to boost your maximum health and stamina. Use Puppet Spiders to lure monsters into traps or environmental hazards.
  4. Monster Scouting: Before engaging, observe the monster's attack patterns from a safe distance. Pay attention to tells for powerful attacks.

Hub Quests (Multiplayer & Single Player)

Hub Quests are designed for cooperative play with up to four hunters, but can also be tackled solo. They offer greater challenges and often yield rarer materials than Village Quests. Your Hunter Rank for Hub Quests is separate from Village Quests.

Types of Hub Quests:

  • Slaying Quests: The most common type, requiring you to defeat one or more large monsters.
    • Strategy: Coordinate with your team on target priority. Use Felyne/Palamute Support Moves like the Healing Palico or Gathering Palamute to your advantage. For solo runs, consider bringing a Healing Palico and a Fighter Palamute for balanced support.
  • Capture Quests: Instead of slaying, you must capture the target monster using traps and tranquilizers.
    • Walkthrough:
      1. Bring at least one Shock Trap or Pitfall Trap, and two Tranquilizer Bombs (crafted from Sleep Herb + Parashroom).
      2. Weaken the monster until it starts limping or skull icons appear on its minimap icon. This indicates it's ready for capture.
      3. Place a trap in its path or directly under it if it's stunned.
      4. Once trapped, throw two Tranquilizer Bombs at the monster to complete the capture.
  • Arena Quests: These quests pit you against one or more monsters in a confined arena with pre-set equipment. They are excellent for testing your skills and earning special rewards like Arena Coins for unique armor and weapon crafting.
  • Rampage Quests: A unique tower-defense style quest where you defend Kamura Village from hordes of invading monsters.
    • Objectives: Defend the Stronghold Gate from waves of monsters, utilizing various Hunting Installations like Ballistas, Cannons, and Wyvernfire Artillery.
    • Strategy:
      1. Placement: Prioritize placing Auto-Ballistas and Auto-Cannons in strategic locations to cover multiple lanes. Manually operate Ballistas for precision shots on Apex monsters or large groups.
      2. Counter Signal: When the Counter Signal is active, your attack power is significantly boosted. Use this time to engage monsters directly with your weapon.
      3. Defender Tickets: Earn Defender Tickets by completing Rampage Quests, which are essential for upgrading Rampage Weapons.

Expedition Tours

These are free-roam quests with no specific objective or time limit. They are ideal for gathering resources, hunting smaller monsters, or simply exploring the environment without the pressure of a main quest. You can leave an Expedition Tour at any time by selecting "Return from Quest" from the menu.

  • Gathering: Collect Herbs, Mushrooms, Ores, and Bugs for crafting. Look for sparkling nodes for rarer materials.
  • Small Monster Hunting: Farm materials from smaller creatures like Jaggi or Kelbi for early armor and weapon upgrades.
  • Large Monster Tracking: Use Expedition Tours to track and learn the routes of large monsters without commitment. This can be useful for planning future hunts.
