Character Creation

Upon starting a new game, you'll be presented with a robust character creation suite. This allows you to meticulously des your hunter's:

  • Gender: Choose between male and female models.
  • Voice: Select from several voice types that will be used for battle cries and emotes.
  • Facial Features: Adjust skin tone, hairstyle, hair color, eyebrows, eye shape, eye color, nose, mouth, jawline, and more.
  • Makeup: Apply various makeup styles and colors.
  • Body Type: Fine-tune body proportions and musculature.
  • Markings: Add scars, tattoos, and other facial markings.

Take your time here, as your hunter's appearance will be with you throughout your journey. You can revisit and change most of these options later via the 'Change Appearance' option in your Item Box.

Armor and Layered Armor

While armor provides crucial stats and skills for hunting, it also dictates your hunter's visual appearance. As you craft and acquire new armor sets, your hunter's look will change accordingly.

Layered Armor: A key feature in Monster Hunter Rise (and expanded in Sunbreak) is Layered Armor. This system allows you to equip cosmetic armor pieces that override your equipped armor's appearance without affecting your stats or skills. You can obtain Layered Armor through various means:

  • Crafting: Many Layered Armor sets can be crafted using specific materials, often from event quests or by trading in certain items.
  • DLC: Some Layered Armor sets are available as paid downloadable content.
  • Event Quests: Special event quests often reward unique Layered Armor pieces.
  • Sunbreak Expansion: The Sunbreak expansion significantly expands the Layered Armor system with new sets and crafting methods.

Access Layered Armor customization through your Item Box under the 'Layered Armor' option.

Outfits and Costumes

Beyond standard armor, Monster Hunter Rise offers special Outfits, often obtained through DLC or promotions. These are purely cosmetic and can be equipped similarly to Layered Armor, providing unique looks like samurai armor or special costumes.

Buddy Customization

Your Palicoes and Palamutes also have their own customization options, which are covered in a separate section. However, remember that their appearance can be altered to match your hunter's aesthetic or stand out independently.

Emotes and Gestures

While not strictly visual customization, emotes and gestures allow your hunter to express themselves during multiplayer sessions or in the village. These can be acquired through gameplay, DLC, or event quests and are managed in your Player Menu.

Color Palettes and Patterns
