Welcome to the world of Monster Hunter Rise! As a new hunter, your journey begins in the serene Kamura Village, a place under threat from a looming monster attack known as the Rampage. This introduction will guide you through the initial steps, from understanding the core gameplay loop to preparing for your very first hunts.
Your Role as a Hunter
In Monster Hunter Rise, you are a hunter, a skilled warrior tasked with protecting the village and maintaining the balance between humanity and the monstrous creatures that inhabit the world. Your primary activities will involve accepting quests, tracking down monsters, gathering resources, and crafting powerful equipment.
Kamura Village: Your Starting Hub
Kamura Village is your central base of operations. Here, you'll find:
- The Gathering Hub: Where you can accept quests and interact with other players online.
- The Shop: Run by Kagayabi, this is where you craft and purchase weapons, armor, and items.
- The Buddy Plaza: Managed by Iori, this is where you train and customize your Palico and Palamute companions.
- The Training Area: A safe space to practice with any weapon type and test out combos.
The Quest System
Quests are the backbone of your progression. You'll receive them from the Quest Maidens, Minoto and Hinoa, in the Gathering Hub. Quests range from simple gathering tasks and hunting small monsters to challenging hunts of large, formidable beasts. Completing quests rewards you with Zenny (in-game currency), Hunter Rank points, and materials.
Core Combat Fundamentals
Monster Hunter Rise features a dynamic combat system. You'll need to learn:
- Basic Attacks: Each weapon has its own set of attacks.
- Dodging: Essential for avoiding monster attacks.
- Blocking: Available with certain weapons (e.g., Sword & Shield, Lance) to mitigate damage.
- Wirebugs: These allow for agile maneuvers, including quick dodges, vertical traversal, and unique Silkbind Attacks.
The Training Area is your best friend for practicing these mechanics.
Your First Gear and Companions
You'll start with basic hunter gear and a choice of companion: a Palico (feline) or a Palamute (canine). Both offer unique support in combat. Palicoes can heal, provide buffs, and attack, while Palamutes allow for faster traversal and can also engage in combat. You can customize their appearance and skills.
Resource Gathering
As you explore the various locales (like the Shrine Ruins or the Sandy Plains), you'll find gathering nodes. Mining outcrops yield ore, plants provide herbs and mushrooms, and insect nests offer bugs. These materials are crucial for crafting potions, traps, and eventually, new weapons and armor.
The Rampage
A significant early-game event is the Rampage, a defense mission where you must protect Kamura Village from waves of monsters. These missions introduce unique mechanics, including setting up automated defenses and using powerful siege weapons.
Your First Monster Hunt
Your initial hunts will likely involve smaller monsters like the Great Izuchi or Arzuros. Focus on observing their attack patterns, learning when to attack and when to dodge, and utilizing your Wirebugs for mobility. Don't be discouraged by early failures; learning from each encounter is part of the process.
