HR 5 Quests: The Apex of the Base Game

Welcome, seasoned hunter, to HR 5! This High Rank tier marks a significant progression in your journey through Monster Hunter Rise. While many standard hunting quests become available, the true highlight of HR 5 is the culmination of the base game's story arc. Unlike previous HR tiers that feature multiple Urgent Quests leading to a new monster, HR 5 primarily funnels you towards a single, monumental confrontation: the final Urgent Quest that concludes the initial narrative.

Before diving into the ultimate challenge, ensure you've completed all previous Urgent Quests and any key village requests that unlock essential gear or features. HR 5 also introduces more challenging versions of existing monsters, often found in quests like "Rathalos in Blue" or "A Friend in Deed," offering valuable high-rank materials for crafting superior equipment. However, to story progression and reaching the credits, your focus will be on the following:

Urgent Quest: The Serpent Goddess of Origin

Objective: Hunt a Narwa, Allmother.

Quest Giver: Fugen the Elder

Location: Coral Palace

Monster Introduction: Narwa, Allmother, is the true final boss of Monster Hunter Rise's base game story. This Elder Dragon is a fusion of Narwa the Allmother and Ibushi the Wind Serpent, wielding immense thunder and wind power. This encounter is a multi-phase spectacle in a unique, dynamic arena designed to test every skill you've acquired thus far.

Strategy: Conquering the Allmother

Narwa, Allmother, is a formidable opponent requiring careful preparation and adaptive combat. Her elemental weakness is Dragon, followed by Ice. Thunder and Fire are largely ineffective. Blunt damage (Hammer, Hunting Horn) is excellent for stunning, while cutting damage (Great Sword, Long Sword, etc.) is crucial for severing her tail. Pierce ammo for Bowguns can also be highly effective against her large body.

Recommended Gear & Skills:
  • Weapon: Prioritize Dragon or Ice element. High raw damage weapons are also viable.
  • Armor: Focus on high defense. Thunder Resistance is highly recommended (aim for 20+). Windproof can also be helpful.
  • Skills:
    • Thunder Resistance: Crucial for mitigating her primary damage source.
    • Evade Extender / Evade Window: Great for dodging her wide-reaching attacks.
    • Wirebug Whisperer: Enhances Wirebug recovery, vital for mobility and recovery.
    • Stun Resistance: Prevents being stunned by her powerful attacks.
    • Partbreaker: Helps in breaking her thunder sacs and tail for extra rewards and to create openings.
    • Flinch Free: Useful in multiplayer to avoid being interrupted by teammates.
    • Divine Blessing: Provides a chance to reduce incoming damage.
  • Items: Mega Potions, Max Potions, Ancient Potions, Dust of Life (for multiplayer), Farcaster (emergency exit), Flash Bombs (can briefly interrupt some attacks), Nullberries (for Thunderblight).
Phase 1: The Coral Palace Unleashed

The fight begins in a circular arena within the Coral Palace. Narwa, Allmother, will primarily use powerful thunder attacks, often creating platforms of electricity. Her key attacks include:

  • Thunder Orb Barrage: She fires multiple homing thunder orbs. Dodge or Wirebug through them.
  • Electric Ring: Creates expanding rings of electricity. Wirebug over them or dodge through the gaps.
  • Tail Slam/Swipe: Her tail is a dangerous weapon. Watch for the wind-up and dodge accordingly.
  • Thunder Breath: A focused beam of lightning. Side dodge is key.

Strategy for Phase 1:

  1. Target Weak Spots: Focus on breaking her glowing thunder sacs located on her belly and back. These are major weak points and breaking them will often cause her to flinch, creating openings.
  2. Sever the Tail: Her tail is severable. Breaking it reduces its reach and provides valuable materials.
  3. use Wirebugs: The arena has several Wirebug launch points. Use them to quickly reposition, dodge attacks, or reach her elevated body parts.
  4. Environmental Attacks: Occasionally, platforms will rise, or ballistae/cannons will become available. Use these to deal extra damage, especially when she's stationary. The Ballistae are particularly effective against her head.
Phase 2: The Serpent Goddess Awakens (Ibushi's Power)

Once you've dealt enough damage, Narwa will absorb Ibushi's power, transforming the arena and gaining new, more devastating attacks. The environment becomes more chaotic, with wind currents and larger, more complex platforms.

  • Rotating Thunder Rings: Similar to Ibushi's attacks, she'll create rotating rings of wind and thunder. Position yourself carefully to avoid them.
  • Electric Pillars: Summons multiple pillars of lightning that erupt from the ground. Watch the ground for indicators.
  • Massive Thunder Beam: A wide, sweeping beam of lightning. This attack has a long wind-up, giving you a chance to Wirebug away or use a Farcaster if you're in a bad spot.
  • Ultimate Attack - "Serpent's Embrace": This is her most dangerous attack. She will rise high, charge a massive energy sphere, and then unleash a devastating explosion that covers a huge portion of the arena.

Strategy for Phase 2:

  1. Interrupt the Ultimate: When Narwa charges her "Serpent's Embrace," glowing sacs will appear on her body (often on her head, chest, and tail). Focus all your attacks on these glowing points. Successfully breaking enough of them will interrupt the attack, causing her to fall and creating a massive opening for damage. This is your biggest damage window.
  2. Stay Mobile: The arena is more dynamic. Use Wirebugs constantly to navigate the rising and falling platforms and avoid ground-based attacks.
  3. Exploit Openings: After major attacks or when she's recovering, capitalize on the brief openings to deal damage to her head or other weak points.
  4. Mounting (Wyvern Riding): If a monster from a previous quest (like a Magnamalo or Zinogre) appears, you can use it to Wyvern Ride Narwa, Allmother, for significant damage and a knockdown.
Common Pitfalls & Tips:
  • Thunderblight: Getting hit by her thunder attacks can inflict Thunderblight, increasing your susceptibility to stun. Use Nullberries immediately.
  • Stun Lock: Be wary of successive hits that can lead to stun. Stun Resistance is highly recommended.
  • Environmental Awareness: Always keep an eye on the arena. Platforms rise and fall, and environmental weapons become available.
  • Don't Be Greedy: Narwa hits hard. Prioritize dodging and survival over getting in extra hits, especially during her more powerful attacks.
  • Farcaster: Don't be afraid to use a Farcaster to return to camp, restock, and heal if you're low on supplies.

Rewards:

Successfully hunting Narwa, Allmother, yields several high-rank materials essential for crafting her powerful armor set and weapons. These items are among the best in the base game.

  • Allmother Orb: A rare drop, crucial for high-tier crafting.
  • Allmother Scale: Common material for armor and weapons.
  • Allmother Hide: Used in various crafting recipes.
  • Allmother Claw: Essential for weapon upgrades.
  • Allmother Horn: Break her horns for a chance at this valuable material.
  • Allmother Tail: Sever her tail for this specific material.
  • Narwa's Gem: A rare gem, often needed for final upgrades.

Congratulations, hunter! Defeating Narwa, Allmother, marks the completion of the Monster Hunter Rise base game's main story. You've proven your worth and resilience. The world of Kamura Village is safe, for now. From here, you can delve into the vast array of High Rank quests, optimize your builds, and prepare for future challenges and expansions!
