Rampage Quest Mechanics
Rampage Quests are a unique defense-oriented quest type in Monster Hunter Rise, challenging hunters to protect Kamura Village from hordes of attacking monsters. Success hinges on strategic placement of defensive installations, efficient monster elimination, and effective use of Hunter Arts and special counter-attacks.
Understanding the Flow of Battle
Each Rampage Quest unfolds in waves, with increasing numbers and strength of monsters. Your primary objective is to prevent monsters from breaching the Stronghold Gate. The quest ends in failure if the gate is destroyed.
- Gate Health: Keep a close eye on the gate's health bar. Prioritize monsters attacking the gate directly.
- Wave Progression: A progress bar at the top of the screen indicates the current wave and how many monsters remain.
- Apex Monsters: The final wave of most Rampage Quests features an Apex monster, a significantly more powerful variant that requires coordinated effort to defeat.
Defensive Installation Management
The core of Rampage strategy lies in utilizing the various defensive installations available. These are placed at designated spots throughout the Stronghold and come in three main categories:
- Auto-Turrets: These installations fire automatically at approaching monsters.
- Ballistae: Good for long-range damage and inflicting status effects.
- Cannons: Deal heavy damage in an area, effective against groups.
- Machine Cannons: Rapid-fire weapons, excellent for sustained damage.
Strategy: Place Auto-Turrets strategically to cover choke points and areas where monsters tend to congregate. Upgrade them using the "Install" menu to increase their damage and effectiveness.
- Manual Installations: These require a hunter to operate them directly.
- Ballistae: Offers precise aiming and the ability to fire special shots like Piercing Rounds or Thunder Rounds.
- Cannons: Allows for precise aiming of explosive shells.
- Wyvernfire Artillery: A powerful, slow-recharging cannon that deals massive damage in a cone.
Strategy: Hunters should prioritize manning Manual Installations during critical moments, such as when a large monster is approaching or during the final Apex wave. Focus fire on weak points for maximum damage.
- Limited-Use Installations: These are powerful, one-time-use defenses.
- Dragonator: A massive spear that impales and severely damages any monster in its path. Typically located at the main gate.
- Splitting Wyvernshot: A powerful, multi-shot attack from a large cannon.
- Farcaster: Allows for quick travel back to the main camp for resupply.
Strategy: Save these for the most dangerous threats, especially the Apex monster. The Dragonator is particularly effective when an Apex monster is charging the gate.
- Prioritize Upgrades: Don't just place installations; upgrade them! Higher-level installations deal significantly more damage.
- Cover All Lanes: Ensure all potential monster entry points are covered by at least one installation.
- Hunter Placement: Position yourself to quickly access and operate Manual Installations when needed, and to intercept monsters that bypass your defenses.
- Hunter Arts: These are specific to each hunter and offer unique offensive or defensive capabilities. Use them to clear out large groups or deal burst damage to tough monsters.
- Counter-Gong: When activated, the Counter-Gong significantly boosts the attack power of all hunters and installations for a limited time. This is crucial for quickly dispatching large threats or the Apex monster.
Installation Placement Tips:
Hunter Arts and Counter-Gong
As you defeat monsters and complete sub-assignments, a special gauge fills, allowing you to activate powerful Hunter Arts and the Counter-Gong.
Strategy: Coordinate with your team (if playing multiplayer) on when to activate the Counter-Gong. Ideally, save it for when the Apex monster appears or when a particularly strong wave is overwhelming your defenses.
Sub-Assignments and Rewards
During Rampage Quests, you'll receive various sub-assignments, such as "Defeat X number of monsters with Ballistae" or "Inflict X amount of status damage." Completing these not only grants additional rewards but also contributes to filling the Hunter Arts and Counter-Gong gauges faster. Prioritize completing these when possible without compromising the gate's safety.
Successful completion of Rampage Quests yields valuable materials for crafting unique Rampage Weapons and decorations, making them a worthwhile endeavor for any hunter.
