Twisted Rathalos (Early Encounter) Strategy
The early encounter with the Twisted Rathalos in Monster Hunter Stories 3: Twisted Reflection serves as a significant early-game challenge, testing your nascent combat skills and Monstie team. This corrupted version of the iconic Rathalos often exhibits enhanced aggression and new attack patterns compared to its standard counterpart. Understanding its elemental affinity, which is typically Fire, is crucial. Therefore, bringing Monsties with strong Water or Ice-based attacks will be highly advantageous. Prioritize Monsties that can exploit this weakness to deal increased damage and shorten the fight.
The Twisted Rathalos is known for its aerial prowess and fiery breath attacks. It will frequently take to the sky, making it difficult to target with ground-based attacks. When it's airborne, focus on using Monsties with ranged attacks or those that can perform Speed-type attacks, as these are often effective against flying foes. Be prepared for its sature move, a devastating Fire Breath attack that can deal massive damage in a wide area. When you see the Rathalos rearing back or its mouth glowing intensely, this is your cue to either dodge out of the attack's range or use a defensive ability. Timing your dodges is critical to avoid taking significant damage.
Breaking off the Twisted Rathalos's parts can also be a viable strategy. Targeting its head or wings can sometimes stagger the monster, interrupting its attacks and creating openings for your team. Remember to utilize your Rider's abilities, such as using items like Potions or Whetstones to maintain your party's strength. Kinship Attacks are also powerful tools; saving them for when the Rathalos is vulnerable or when you need to deal a burst of damage can turn the tide of battle. By focusing on exploiting its elemental weakness, anticipating its aerial attacks, and strategically breaking its parts, you can overcome this early twisted reflection and continue your journey.
