Status Effects Explained

Beyond raw damage, Monster Hunter Stories 3: Twisted Reflection introduces several status effects that can dramatically alter the flow of combat. These debilitating conditions can be inflicted by both monsters and your own Monsties, offering strategic advantages or posing significant threats. Understanding how each status works, its duration, and how to cure or prevent it is vital for survival. Poison, for instance, inflicts damage over time, chipping away at health each turn. A monster afflicted with Poison will lose approximately 5% of its maximum HP at the start of its turn. Paralysis renders a target unable to act for a set number of turns, effectively removing them from the fight. A paralyzed monster has a 75% chance to miss its next action. Sleep also prevents actions, but the target will awaken immediately if it takes any damage. A sleeping monster will remain so until attacked. Burn inflicts continuous fire damage, similar to Poison, but with a higher initial damage tick. A burning target takes 10% of its max HP in damage each turn. Frostbite slows down the target's action speed, reducing their turn order priority and potentially causing them to miss turns. A frostbitten target has a 50% chance to act last in a turn. Blunt, inflicted by certain heavy attacks, can stagger monsters, interrupting their actions and creating openings. Monsters afflicted with Blunt have a 60% chance to flinch when attacked. Conversely, monsters can inflict these same ailments upon you and your Monsties. Certain armor pieces and consumables, like the Antidote Herb, can cure specific status effects. Furthermore, some Monsties possess abilities that can cleanse status effects from your party, such as the Nulberry's cleansing aura. Be mindful of monsters known for inflicting specific ailments, such as the Khezu's paralyzing attacks or the Qurupeco's poisonous screeches. Preparing the right gear and consumables before venturing into areas like the Murky Fen, known for its venomous inhabitants, can save you from a swift defeat.
