Melding & Decorations Crafting — Monster Hunter Wilds Guide

Craft vital Decorations using the Melding Pot in Monster Hunter Wilds. Enhance your builds with elemental skills and optimize gear.

Melding & Decorations Crafting

In Monster Hunter Wilds, the Melding Pot is your go-to station for transforming unwanted materials into valuable Decorations. These powerful jewels slot into your armor and weapons, granting crucial skills that can significantly enhance your hunting prowess. Mastering the Melding Pot is essential for optimizing your builds and tackling the toughest monsters the Wilds have to offer.

Accessing the Melding Pot

The Melding Pot can be found in your primary hub area, typically near the Smithy and your Item Box. It's operated by a dedicated NPC, often referred to as the "Melder." Speak to them to initiate the melding process.

Understanding the Melding Process

Melding involves sacrificing a selection of materials to generate new Decorations. The quality and type of materials you offer directly influence the potential rarity and skill of the Decorations you receive. There are several melding methods, each with its own characteristics:

  • Standard Melding: This basic method allows you to convert a set amount of monster parts, ores, and bones into a random Decoration. It's a good way to clear out excess low-tier materials.
  • Targeted Melding: As you progress, you'll unlock more advanced melding options that allow you to target specific skill categories. For example, you might choose a "Blademaster Melding" to increase your chances of getting attack-focused Decorations, or a "Gunner Melding" for ranged weapon skills. These often require rarer materials or a higher quantity of standard materials.
  • Ancient Melding: This high-tier melding option becomes available in the endgame. It uses extremely rare materials, often obtained from Elder Dragons or high-level investigations, to produce Decorations with multiple skills or higher skill point values. This is where you'll craft your most sought-after jewels like Attack Jewel 4 or Critical Eye Jewel 4.

Materials for Melding

Almost any material you gather or carve can be used in the Melding Pot. However, some materials are more valuable than others:

  • Monster Parts: Scales, claws, fangs, and hides from various monsters are primary melding ingredients. Rarer monster parts (e.g., Rathalos Ruby, Nergigante Gem) will yield better results in targeted and ancient melding.
  • Ores & Bones: Common gathering materials like Iron Ore, Dragonite Ore, Monster Bone S, and Monster Bone L are frequently used in standard melding.
  • Research Points: While not a physical item, Research Points (RP) are often required alongside materials for higher-tier melding recipes. Ensure you have a healthy supply by completing bounties and investigations.
  • Specific Melding Catalysts: Some advanced melding recipes may require unique catalysts, such as Spiritvein Gems or Great Spiritvein Gems, which are typically acquired from challenging endgame content.

Crafting Decorations: Step-by-Step

  1. Visit the Melder: Locate the Melding Pot NPC in your hub.
  2. Select a Melding Method: Choose from the available options (Standard, Targeted, Ancient, etc.).
  3. Choose Materials: The Melder will display a list of required materials. Select the materials you wish to sacrifice. The game will often provide an estimated output quality or potential skill categories.
  4. Confirm Melding: Review your selections and confirm the melding process.
  5. Wait for Results: Melding often takes a few quests or expeditions to complete. You'll be notified when your new Decorations are ready.
  6. Collect Decorations: Return to the Melder to claim your newly crafted Decorations.

Decoration Management & Usage

  • Equipping Decorations: Once you have Decorations, you can slot them into armor pieces and some weapons that have available Decoration Slots. Access this through your Item Box or the Smithy's "Manage Decorations" option.
  • Slot Levels: Decorations come in various levels (e.g., Level 1, Level 2, Level 3). Armor and weapons also have Decoration Slots of different levels. A Level 1 Decoration can fit into a Level 1, 2, or 3 slot, but a Level 3 Decoration can only fit into a Level 3 slot.
  • Skill Synergy: Pay close attention to the skills granted by your Decorations. Aim to create synergistic builds that complement your weapon choice and playstyle. For example, a Great Sword user might prioritize Focus and Critical Draw Decorations, while a Bow user might seek Spread Shot and Normal Shot.
  • Inventory Management: You'll accumulate many Decorations. Regularly sort through them, keeping the ones that are useful for your current or future builds, and considering selling duplicates or less useful ones for Zenny.

By diligently utilizing the Melding Pot and strategically crafting Decorations, you'll unlock the full potential of your hunter and conquer any challenge the Wilds throw your way!
