Post-Game Content
Congratulations, Hunter! Conquering the main story in Monster Hunter Wilds is just the beginning. The true test of your skill and dedication lies in the expansive post-game content, offering new challenges, rare materials, and powerful gear to forge. This guide will walk you through the essential steps to maximize your post-game experience.
Unlocking the Elder's Ascent
Upon completing the final story mission, you'll gain access to the Elder's Ascent, a new region teeming with High-Rank monsters and unique environmental hazards. This is your primary hub for post-game progression.
- Step 1: Speak with the Guild Master. Return to the Hunter's Hub in the main encampment and speak with the Guild Master. They will congratulate you and initiate a new urgent quest, "The Call of the Ancients," which serves as your introduction to the Elder's Ascent.
- Step 2: Complete "The Call of the Ancients." This quest requires you to hunt a High-Rank Rathalos in the newly accessible Elder's Ascent: Skyreach Peaks. Be prepared for increased monster aggression and damage compared to your previous encounters.
- Step 3: Establish the Elder's Ascent Outpost. After successfully completing "The Call of the Ancients," a new outpost will be established in the Elder's Ascent. This outpost provides a supply box, tent, and access to the local provisions and smithy, crucial for extended expeditions.
High-Rank Expeditions and Investigations
The Elder's Ascent introduces High-Rank versions of familiar monsters, alongside entirely new threats. These hunts are essential for acquiring High-Rank materials needed for advanced armor and weapon upgrades.
High-Rank Material Farming
Focus on hunting specific monsters to acquire their High-Rank counterparts. Here are some key materials and their sources:
- Wyvern Gem Shard: Dropped by High-Rank Rathalos, Diablos, and Astalos. Best farmed in the Elder's Ascent: Volcanic Fissure for Diablos, and Skyreach Peaks for Rathalos/Astalos.
- Elder Dragonbone: Obtained from High-Rank Elder Dragons such as Kushala Daora and Teostra. These are unlocked through specific urgent quests given by the Guild Master after reaching a certain Hunter Rank (HR).
- Purecrystal: A rare ore found in mining outcrops exclusively within the Elder's Ascent: Crystal Caves. Equip your Geologist skill to increase your chances of finding this valuable material.
Unlocking Investigations
Investigations offer repeatable quests with specific rewards and conditions. To unlock them:
- Gather Tracks: During High-Rank expeditions, actively search for monster tracks, scat, and other environmental clues. Each discovery contributes to an investigation's progress.
- Break Parts: Breaking monster parts during High-Rank quests also contributes to unlocking investigations.
- Speak with the Research Base Leader: Once enough research points are accumulated for a specific monster, speak with the Research Base Leader in the Hunter's Hub. They will generate new investigations for you.
Prioritize investigations with gold reward boxes, as these often yield rare decorations and valuable materials like Great Spiritvein Gem.
The Guiding Lands: Endless Exploration
After reaching Hunter Rank 50 and completing a special urgent quest titled "The Ever-Shifting Wilds," you will unlock access to The Guiding Lands. This unique, ever-changing biome is the ultimate post-game challenge and resource hub.
Guiding Lands Mechanics
- Biomes: The Guiding Lands are divided into several biomes (e.g., Forest, Wildspire, Coral, Volcanic, Tundra, Rotten Vale), each with its own set of monsters and unique materials.
- Regional Levels: Hunting monsters and gathering materials within a biome increases its Regional Level. Higher levels introduce more powerful monsters, including Tempered and Elder Dragons, and unlock rarer materials.
- Tempered Monsters: These are significantly stronger versions of regular monsters, identifiable by their purple aura. They drop exclusive materials like Tempered Scale and Tempered Claw, essential for augmenting weapons and armor.
- Material Gathering: The Guiding Lands offer unique gathering nodes that provide materials for weapon and armor augmentation, such as Spiritvein Slabs from mining and Dragonvein Solidbone from bonepiles.
Augmentation and Customization
The Guiding Lands are the primary source for materials used in weapon and armor augmentation. Speak to the Smithy to access the Augmentation menu.
- Weapon Augmentation: Use materials like Spiritvein Gem and Great Spiritvein Gem to add health regeneration, affinity, or defense bonuses to your weapons.
- Armor Augmentation: Utilize Pure Dragonblood and Elder Dragon Blood to increase the defense of your armor pieces, allowing for higher survivability against the toughest monsters.
Focus on leveling up specific biomes to target the materials you need for your desired augmentations. For example, to augment a weapon for health regen, you'll need materials from Tempered monsters found in higher-level biomes.
Event Quests and Arch-Tempered Monsters
Keep an eye on the Event Quest board in the Hunter's Hub. These limited-time quests often feature unique challenges and rewards.
- Special Arena Quests: These quests pit you against powerful monsters in a confined arena, offering a quick way to farm specific materials.
- Collaboration Quests: Periodically, Monster Hunter Wilds will feature collaboration events with other games, offering exclusive armor sets, weapons, and layered armor.
- Arch-Tempered Monsters: These are the pinnacle of challenge in Monster Hunter Wilds, appearing as rotating Event Quests. Arch-Tempered monsters are even more powerful than their Tempered counterparts, boasting increased health, damage, and new attack patterns. Defeating them rewards Tempered Tickets and Arch-Tempered Scales, used to craft and upgrade the most powerful layered armor and gamma (γ) armor sets.
Always check the Event Quest schedule and prepare thoroughly before facing Arch-Tempered threats. Consider bringing a dedicated team and optimizing your build for maximum elemental resistance and damage output.
