Trapping & Capturing Monsters
Trapping and capturing monsters in Monster Hunter Wilds is a vital skill that offers alternative ways to acquire rare materials and complete specific quest objectives. Mastering these techniques allows for a more strategic approach to hunting, often yielding better rewards than simply slaying a beast.
The primary tools for trapping are the Pitfall Trap and the Shock Trap. Pitfall Traps create a hole in the ground that ensnares monsters, while Shock Traps temporarily paralyze them. Both require careful placement and timing to be effective, especially against agile or powerful monsters.
To successfully capture a monster, you must first weaken it sificantly. Once its health is low enough (indicated by limping or specific visual cues), you can deploy a trap. Immediately after the monster is caught in the trap, use Tranq Bombs to subdue it. Two Tranq Bombs are typically sufficient for most monsters.
Capturing monsters is often preferred for obtaining specific rare materials that are not dropped upon slaying. Some quests explicitly require capture, making this skill indispensable. It also allows for the monster to potentially reappear in the wild, contributing to the ecosystem's dynamic nature.
Preparation is key. Always ensure you have the necessary crafting materials for traps and Tranq Bombs before heading out on a hunt where capture is the objective. Understanding monster behavior when weakened, such as their tendency to retreat to their nests, can also aid in setting up effective capture attempts.
