Basic Controls & UI
Navigating the world of Monster Hunter World: Iceborne and understanding its interface is essential for any hunter. The Heads-Up Display (HUD) provides a wealth of information at a glance. At the top left, you'll find your Health Bar and Stamina Bar. Keeping these full is paramount for survival. Adjacent to these are your Sharpness Gauge for your weapon, indicating its current durability, and your Item Bar, showing equipped consumables and their quantities.
The top right of the screen displays the Minimap, which shows your current location, the terrain, and nearby monsters. You can cycle through different map views to get a better understanding of your surroundings. Below the minimap, you'll see the Monster Information panel, which displays the target monster's health, status effects, and sometimes its current rage level. This is crucial for tracking the progress of your hunt.
On PC, controls can be managed via keyboard and mouse or a gamepad. For keyboard and mouse, common controls include WASD for movement, left-click for primary attacks, right-click for secondary attacks, and various number keys for item usage and weapon-specific actions. Gamepad controls for Xbox One and PlayStation 4 are more streamlined, with analog sticks for movement and camera control, and face buttons and triggers dedicated to attacking, dodging, blocking, and item selection. Familiarizing yourself with the default layouts or customizing them to your preference is highly recommended.
The Radial Menu is a quick-access system for items and actions. You can customize this menu to include your most frequently used items, such as potions, traps, and whetstones. Holding down the desated radial menu button (e.g., L1 on PlayStation, LB on Xbox, or a specific key on PC) brings up the menu, allowing you to select an item with the analog stick or directional buttons. Mastering the radial menu significantly speeds up your ability to react in combat.
