Bow Iceborne Moveset & Combos

Sharpen your skills with the Bow in Monster Hunter World: Iceborne. Understand its moveset, combos, and the impact of various coatings for piercing damage.

The Bow in Monster Hunter World: Iceborne is a highly mobile and versatile ranged weapon that excels at dealing consistent elemental damage and applying status effects. Its Iceborne iteration introduces new coatings and enhanced aerial capabilities.

Bow Fundamentals and Coatings

The Bow's primary attacks involve charging shots for increased damage and range. You can fire rapid shots (Circle/B) or charged shots (hold Circle/B). The key to the Bow's effectiveness lies in its Coatings, which are applied to your arrows to add effects:

  • Power Coating: Increases raw damage.
  • Elemental Coatings: (Fire, Water, Thunder, Ice, Dragon) - Essential for exploiting monster elemental weaknesses.
  • Status Coatings: (Poison, Paralysis) - Used to inflict status effects on monsters.
  • Close Range Coating: Increases damage at close range.

Mobility and Dodging

The Bow is one of the most mobile weapons in the game. Its quick dodge (Circle/B) allows for rapid repositioning, and you can even fire shots while moving. The Dash Charge (Circle/B while holding Circle/B) allows you to charge your bow while dodging, maintaining offensive pressure.

Charged Shots and Combos

The core of Bow gameplay involves building up charges on your shots. A typical combo involves:

  1. Rapid Shot (Circle/B)
  2. Charged Shot Level 1 (Hold Circle/B)
  3. Charged Shot Level 2 (Hold Circle/B further)
  4. Charged Shot Level 3 (Hold Circle/B to full)

After a charged shot, you can perform a Dragon Piercer (hold Triangle/Y after a charged shot), a powerful piercing attack that deals immense damage if it connects with multiple hits. In Iceborne, Dragon Piercer has been improved for better hit registration.

New Iceborne Features

Iceborne introduces the Arc Shot (R2+Triangle/RT+Y), a powerful overhead shot that deals significant damage and can stun monsters. This is particularly useful when a monster is downed or when you need to create space. The Clutch Claw can be used after a charged shot to latch onto the monster, allowing for repositioning or a free attack. New coatings like the Blast Coating can also be found.

Essential Skills for the Bow

Key skills for Bow users include:

  • Elemental Attack Up (for the corresponding element)
  • Weakness Exploit
  • Critical Boost
  • Constitution (reduces stamina drain from charging and dodging)
  • Stamina Surge
  • Normal/Pierce/Spread Up (depending on your Bow's focus)

The Bow requires precise aiming and good stamina management. Mastering its coatings and charged shot mechanics, along with effective use of Dragon Piercer and Arc Shot, will make you a deadly force.
