Glavenus Iceborne Strategy Guide
Glavenus, the "Iron-Shelled Wyvern," returns in Monster Hunter World: Iceborne with its sature fiery tail and devastating sword-like tail. This formidable beast is a master of close-quarters combat, utilizing its heated tail to inflict massive damage. Understanding its attack patterns and exploiting its weaknesses is key to a successful hunt.
Key Weaknesses: Glavenus is particularly vulnerable to Water and Ice element attacks. Its head is also a prime target for damage, especially when it's not enraged. Aim for the head and tail when opportunities arise, but be mindful of its aggressive swings.
Attack Patterns to Watch For:
- Tail Swings: Glavenus performs wide, sweeping tail attacks. These can be telegraphed by a slight wind-up. Dodge through them or create distance.
- Tail Sweep Combo: A series of rapid tail sweeps that can quickly close distance. Be prepared to dodge multiple times.
- Head Slam: Glavenus will rear up and slam its head down. This is a powerful attack with a clear visual cue.
- Fire Breath: While not as prominent as some other elder dragons, Glavenus can exhale a short burst of fire, especially after charging its tail.
- Enraged State: When enraged, Glavenus's tail glows intensely red, and its attacks become faster and more powerful. Its head also becomes a more dangerous area to attack due to increased aggression.
Combat Tips:
- Exploit Openings: After Glavenus finishes a major attack, such as its head slam or a series of tail swings, there's usually a brief window to land a few hits.
- Guard or Dodge: Weapons with guarding capabilities can block some of its attacks, but be aware of stamina drain. For most weapons, precise dodging is essential.
- Target the Tail: Breaking Glavenus's tail can significantly reduce its offensive pressure. This also yields extra carving materials.
- Mounting: Mounting Glavenus can provide valuable downtime to deal significant damage or reposition.
- Environmental Hazards: Be aware of the environment. Some areas may have ledges for aerial attacks or hazards that can be used to your advantage.
Recommended Gear: Prioritize armor with high Fire Resistance and skills that boost your weapon's elemental damage (Water or Ice). Skills like Evade Window and Guard Up can also be highly beneficial.
