Zinogre Iceborne Strategy Guide

The Zinogre, the "Thunder Wolf Dragon," is a fan-favorite monster that returns in Iceborne with enhanced abilities. It channels thunder through its fur, becoming more powerful as it charges up. Understanding its charge states and elemental vulnerabilities is key to overcoming this beast.

Weaknesses and Resistances

Zinogre is highly vulnerable to Fire attacks. Ice is also a decent option. It is extremely resistant to Thunder, so avoid using Thunder element weapons. Water and Dragon elements have moderate effectiveness.

Key Attacks and How to Evade

  • Thunder Pounce: Zinogre leaps into the air and slams down, creating a shockwave. Dodge to the side as it lands.
  • Claw Swipes: Fast, multi-hit claw attacks. These can be dodged by rolling through them or using a well-timed block.
  • Tail Slam: A powerful slam with its tail, often with a wide arc. Dodge away or through it.
  • Thunder Charge: When Zinogre's fur glows blue, it's charging up. During this phase, its attacks are faster and deal more damage. It will often perform a powerful thunderclap AoE.
  • Charged Thunderclap: After a full charge, Zinogre can unleash a devastating area-of-effect thunder attack. This has a significant wind-up, giving you time to escape the radius.

Combat Tips

The Zinogre's power level fluctuates based on its charge state. When its fur is glowing blue and crackling with electricity, it's in its most dangerous form. However, this is also when it's most vulnerable to being knocked out of its charged state. Hitting its head and forelegs can stagger it and interrupt its charges. Breaking its horns can prevent it from reaching its fully charged state as easily. When it's not charged, it's more manageable, but still aggressive. Focus on dodging its lunges and swipes, and punish its recovery animations. Using Flash Pods can sometimes interrupt its aerial attacks.

Recommended Gear and Skills

Fire element weapons are your best bet. Armor with Fire Attack and skills like Evade Window, Evade Extender, and Earplps are highly beneficial. Consider skills that boost your defense or provide elemental resistance to Thunder, as its charged attacks can be devastating. Health Boost is always a valuable skill for survivability.
