Gathering & Environmental Interactions

Become proficient in Monster Hunter World: Iceborne gathering and environmental interactions. Collect essential materials from Mining Outcrops and other nodes .

Gathering resources and interacting with the environment are core mechanics in Monster Hunter World: Iceborne, providing essential materials for crafting, upgrading, and survival. Understanding these interactions can turn a challenging hunt into a successful expedition.

Gathering Nodes:

Scattered throughout every locale are various gathering nodes:

  • Mining Outcrops: Yield ores like Iron Ore, Machalite Ore, and rarer materials like Adamantite and Dragonite Ore. These are crucial for weapon and armor crafting.
  • Bonepiles: Provide bones such as Monster Bone, Monster Bone+, and rarer variants. Essential for early-game gear.
  • Mushrooms: Offer various fungi, some of which are ingredients for healing items or have unique effects.
  • Herbs & Plants: Yield common ingredients like Herbs, Blue Mushrooms, and Bitterbugs, vital for crafting potions and antidotes.
  • Insects: Some insects can be gathered for specific crafting recipes or as bait.
  • Honey: A valuable ingredient for crafting Mega Potions and other restorative items.

Gathering Mechanics: Approach a node and press the interact button. Your hunter will perform a short animation to gather. Be aware that gathering leaves you vulnerable, so ensure the area is safe or that you have sufficient time.

Environmental Interactions:

  • Flora & Fauna: Many plants and small creatures can be interacted with. Some provide temporary buffs (e.g., eating certain fruits), while others can be captured or used as bait.
  • Water Sources: Drinking from certain water sources can restore stamina or provide minor buffs.
  • Climbable Surfaces: Vines, ledges, and walls allow for vertical traversal.
  • Breakable Objects: Rocks, trees, and other environmental elements can sometimes be broken to reveal hidden items or create pathways.
  • Traps: Natural traps like falling rocks or collapsing terrain can be triggered to damage monsters.
  • Water/Lava/Acid Pools: Stepping into these can inflict damage or status effects.
  • Interactive Flora: Some plants, like the Blastoad or Sleepy Mushroom, have unique effects when triggered or consumed.

Scoutflies:

Scoutflies are your guides to finding gathering nodes and monsters. They glow green when you are near a relevant item or track. Following them will lead you to points of interest. As you gather more information about a monster (tracks, drops, etc.), your Scoutflies will become more adept at tracking it, eventually leading you directly to its location.

Tip: Always take a moment to gather resources when you see them, especially early in a hunt. These materials are essential for crafting and replenishing your supplies mid-quest.
