Charm Crafting & Upgrades
Charms are a vital piece of equipment in Monster Hunter World: Iceborne, offering a consistent source of powerful skills that can complement your armor and weapon choices. Crafting and upgrading charms allows you to tailor your build with specific skill bonuses that might be difficult to obtain through armor alone.
Charms are crafted and upgraded at the Smithy using various monster materials, ores, and sometimes rare items. Each charm is associated with a specific skill, and as you upgrade a charm, its effectiveness or the level of the skill it provides increases.
Charm Crafting Process:
- Gather Materials: You'll need specific materials for each charm. These are often obtained by hunting monsters, mining in various locales, or completing specific quests. For example, crafting an Attack Charm might require materials from early-game monsters, while a higher-tier charm like a Challenger Charm+ will require materials from more challenging Master Rank monsters.
- Select Charm: At the Smithy, navigate to the "Charm" crafting menu. You'll see a list of available charms you can craft based on the materials you possess.
- Craft: Once you have the necessary materials, you can craft the charm.
Charm Upgrading Process:
- Gather Upgrade Materials: Similar to crafting, upgrading requires specific materials. These are often more advanced or rarer than those needed for initial crafting.
- Select Charm for Upgrade: In the "Charm" menu, you'll also find an "Upgrade Charm" option. Select the charm you wish to enhance.
- Upgrade: If you have the required materials, you can upgrade the charm. Each upgrade typically increases the level of the associated skill or adds a new, more potent version of the skill. For instance, an Attack Charm might go from providing Attack Boost 1 to Attack Boost 2, and eventually to Attack Charm+ which provides higher levels of Attack Boost.
Key Charms to Prioritize:
- Attack Charm: Essential for raw damage builds.
- Critical Charm: Boosts affinity, crucial for critical hit builds.
- Health Charm: Provides Health Boost, a vital defensive skill.
- Challenger Charm: Grants Challenger, increasing attack and affinity when monsters are enraged.
- Guard Charm: Improves blocking capabilities for defensive playstyles.
- Evade Charm: Enhances evasion with Evade Window.
The progression of charms often involves a base version, followed by a "+" version, and sometimes even a "++" version for the most powerful skills. Continuously upgrading your charms as you gather the necessary materials will significantly contribute to your overall build effectiveness and allow you to tackle more demanding hunts.
