Part Breaking & Weakness Exploiting
Monster Hunter World: Iceborne places a significant emphasis on targeting specific monster parts. Breaking these parts not only deals additional damage but also often yields crucial crafting materials unique to that section. Many monsters have specific weaknesses on certain limbs, heads, or tails. For instance, severing a monster's tail can prevent it from executing certain devastating attacks or grant access to tail-specific carve materials. Breaking a monster's head can sometimes stagger it, creating openings for attacks, or even dislodge valuable items like horns.
Identifying these weaknesses is a core part of the hunt. Observe the monster's anatomy and its attack patterns. Blunt weapons, like Hammers and Hunting Horns, are generally best for breaking hard parts like heads and horns, and also contribute to stunning monsters. Slicing weapons, such as Great Swords, Long Swords, and Dual Blades, excel at severing tails and breaking softer parts like wings or legs. Bows and Bowguns can target specific weak points from a distance, making them excellent for precise part damage.
The Hunter's Notes provide valuable information on which parts are breakable and what elemental or damage types they are most vulnerable to. For example, a monster's wing might be weak to Thunder damage, while its legs might be susceptible to blunt impact. Prioritizing these breaks can significantly shorten hunt times and improve your rewards. Remember that some parts may require multiple hits or specific damage types to break. Don't be afraid to focus your attacks on a single area if you know it's a critical weak point or if it offers a significant tactical advantage by being broken.
