Temporal Mantle & Rocksteady Mantle Guide
The Temporal Mantle and Rocksteady Mantle are two of the most sought-after defensive and offensive tools in Monster Hunter World: Iceborne. While both offer significant survivability benefits, they function in distinct ways and are best utilized in different scenarios.
The Rocksteady Mantle, available early in the base game, grants you immunity to most monster attacks that would normally cause knockback or stuns. This means you can continue your assault even when a monster is actively attacking you, making it invaluable for aggressive weapon users like the Great Sword or Hammer. However, it does not make you invincible; powerful, unblockable attacks can still deal significant damage. The Rocksteady Mantle has a longer duration but a longer cooldown compared to the Temporal Mantle.
The Temporal Mantle, introduced in Iceborne, provides a short burst of complete invincibility. During its activation, you will take no damage whatsoever, allowing you to escape dangerous situations, reposition yourself, or even land critical hits without interruption. This Mantle is particularly useful for avoiding devastating attacks from Elder Dragons or for safely mounting monsters. Its duration is shorter than the Rocksteady Mantle, but its invincibility effect is absolute.
To acquire the Rocksteady Mantle, you typically need to complete the Arena Quests: "The Lord of the Tower" and "The Arena Master." The Temporal Mantle is unlocked by completing the special assment "The Black Eagle" given by the Field Team Leader after reaching a certain Master Rank.
Effective Usage Tips:
- Rocksteady Mantle: Use it when you need to maintain consistent damage output, especially against monsters with rapid attack patterns. It's also excellent for applying status effects or breaking monster parts without being interrupted.
- Temporal Mantle: Save this for moments when you absolutely need to avoid damage, such as during a monster's ultimate attack or when you're low on health and need to heal safely. It can also be used to initiate a mount or to get behind a monster for a critical hit.
Both Mantles can be upgraded at the Smithy to increase their duration and reduce their cooldowns, making them even more potent tools in your arsenal.
