MR 1-2: First Steps in Hoarfrost Reach

Begin your Master Rank journey in Monster Hunter World: Iceborne. Learn to tackle MR 1-2 quests in the Hoarfrost Reach and gather new resources.

Master Rank (MR) 1 through 2 marks your initial foray into the Hoarfrost Reach and the beginning of your Master Rank journey. These early quests are designed to acclimate you to the increased difficulty and introduce you to the new mechanics and monsters of Iceborne. Focus on learning the environments, gathering new resources, and understanding the basic behaviors of the Master Rank monsters you encounter.

Key Quests and Objectives:

  • Introduction to the Hoarfrost Reach: Your first few quests will likely involve exploring the Hoarfrost Reach, gathering specific materials, and tracking down new endemic life. Pay close attention to the environmental hazards, particularly the cold, and ensure you have adequate preparation with Hot Drinks.
  • First Master Rank Hunts: You'll face new iterations of familiar monsters and entirely new creatures. Expect monsters like the Beotodus, a snow-burrowing wyverns, and the territorial Banbaro, a large horned beast. Learn their attack patterns, weak points, and how they utilize the snowy terrain.
  • Resource Gathering and Crafting: Prioritize gathering new ores, bones, and monster parts found in the Hoarfrost Reach. These are essential for crafting your first Master Rank armor sets and weapons, which will provide the necessary defense and offensive power to progress. Look for new armor skills that offer resistances to cold or enhance your combat effectiveness.

Tips for Success:

  • Gear Up: Ensure your armor provides adequate defense and consider skills like Health Boost, Earplugs, and early-game resistances. Crafting a new Master Rank weapon is also highly recommended to overcome the higher HP pools of Master Rank monsters.
  • Utilize Hot Drinks: The Hoarfrost Reach is cold! Always carry Hot Drinks to prevent the Frostbite status effect, which drains stamina and hinders your ability to heal and use items.
  • Scoutfly Training: Level up your Scoutflies by following tracks and gathering information. This will make it easier to locate monsters and valuable gathering spots.
  • Observe Monster Behavior: Master Rank monsters hit harder and have new attack patterns. Take your time to observe their movements, identify openings, and learn their tells. Don't be afraid to retreat and heal when necessary.
  • Palico Gadgets: Experiment with your Palico's gadgets. The Plunderblade can be useful for acquiring extra monster materials, while the Vigorwasp Spray provides essential healing.
