The Great Jagras Hunt (Assigned Quest)

The Great Jagras Hunt begins as a simple Kestodon hunt but quickly escalates when a Great Jagras appears. Players can either return to Astera to start this as a new quest or continue directly from the "A Kestodon Kerfuffle" quest, tackling two objectives in one trip. This quest is a crucial early step in Monster Hunter: World, introducing players to hunting larger monsters.

This assigned quest requires you to slay 7 Jagras within a 50-minute time limit. You will depart to the Ancient Forest, starting from tent (1). Head to zone 2, where you previously hid from Jagras, to find your prey. The Great Jagras itself has simple attacks, including claw swings, tail swings, and charges. Avoiding these and attacking will lead to success.

After completing the hunt, return to Astera. You can take your carved parts to the Smithy to begin forging Jagras Armor and weapons. If you struggle to make a full set, consider visiting the investigation team for extra quests or continue with your next assigned quest.

The "Kestodon Kerfuffle" quest, which can precede this, involves hunting 3 male and 5 female Kestodon in the Ancient Forest. Male Kestodon are identifiable by their larger head crowns and will charge you. The quest divides the herd into two groups for easier hunting.

Following footprints will lead you directly to the Great Jagras and earn you points. Scout flies will guide you if you inspect the footprints. You can return to base and re-take this quest from the Assigned Quest menu if needed.

This quest is considered the first true quest of the game, following initial tutorials. It introduces players to assigned slaying quests and the basic mechanics of hunting. Players can review tutorials through the Options Button Sub-Menu.
