The Blazing Sun (Assigned Quest) — Monster Hunter: World Walkthrough
The Blazing Sun Assigned Quest is unlocked through a combination of in-game achievements and progression. These include discovering and capturing monsters across different ranks, completing prior Optional quests, and interacting with key villagers. Fully researching monsters and hunting tempered variants also contribute to its availability.
To unlock this quest, you need to meet several criteria:
- Monster Findings: Finding monsters in low, high, and master rank each contribute separately.
- Monster Captures: Capturing monsters in low, high, and master rank also counts towards progression.
- Villager Interactions: Talking to Villagers with a '(!)' in Astera, Research Base, or Seliana can unlock new quests.
- Optional Quest Completion: Completing previous Optional quests is often a prerequisite.
- Rare Encounters: Randomly available Rare encounters, which last for 2 quests and then disappear, can also play a role.
- Monster Research: Fully researching monsters (all tabs in the monster manual) is important.
- Tempered Monster Hunts: Hunting a certain number of different tempered monsters. Quests or investigations with multiple tempered targets only register the first listed.
- Assigned Quest Progress: Your current progress level for Assigned Quests directly influences when this quest becomes available.
Upon completing a quest, you return to Astera to use your loot at the Smithy. If you can't craft a full armor set, consider undertaking extra quests from the investigation team or proceeding with your next assigned quest.
One early assigned story involves departing on an expedition to the Wildspire Wastes after beating Zorah a second time. The objectives are to "speak to handler" and "head to wildspire waste." The handler mentions a "forest area of the wildspire wastes," which can be confusing as no obvious forest exists there. After accepting a quest from the Handler, you might find yourself on a simple quest to slay 7 Jagras within 50 minutes in the Ancient Forest, starting at tent (1) and heading to zone 2. Another quest, the Kestodon Kerfuffle, involves hunting 3 male and 5 female Kestodon. This quest can naturally lead into a Great Jagras Hunt.
