The Thunderous Roar (Assigned Quest) — Monster Hunter: World Walkthrough

The Thunderous Roar is an Assigned Quest that becomes available through various in-game activities. These include finding and capturing monsters across all ranks, completing Optional quests, and interacting with villagers. Progressing through Assigned Quests and fully researching monsters are also key factors.

Unlocking this quest, like many others, depends on your overall game progression:

  • Monster Discoveries: Finding monsters in low, high, and master rank contributes to unlocking quests.
  • Monster Captures: Capturing monsters across low, high, and master rank also counts.
  • Villager Conversations: Speaking with Villagers marked with a '(!)' in Astera, Research Base, or Seliana can trigger new quests.
  • Optional Quest Completion: Finishing previous Optional quests is often necessary.
  • Rare Encounters: Randomly available Rare encounters, which last for 2 quests, can also influence quest availability.
  • Monster Research: Fully researching monsters (completing all tabs in the monster manual) is a factor.
  • Tempered Monster Hunts: Hunting a certain number of different tempered monsters (only the first listed target in multi-tempered quests/investigations counts).
  • Assigned Quest Progress: Your current progress level in Assigned Quests is a primary driver for unlocking new content.

After completing the quest, you will return to Astera. There, you can use your loot at the Smithy to forge weapons and armor. If you cannot make a full set, visit the investigation team for extra quests or continue with your next assigned quest.

A related early quest involves slaying 7 Jagras within 50 minutes in the Ancient Forest, starting from tent (1) and heading to zone 2 where you previously hid from Jagras. Another quest, the Kestodon Kerfuffle, requires hunting 3 male and 5 female Kestodon in the Ancient Forest. Male Kestodon are identifiable by their larger head crowns. This quest can transition directly into a Great Jagras Hunt if you choose to continue without returning to town.
