High Rank Quests: The True Hunt Begins
High Rank Quests in Monster Hunter: World offer new challenges and opportunities for hunters. These quests are a natural progression from Low Rank and introduce more formidable versions of monsters, along with better rewards. Unlocking High Rank content and subsequent quests involves various in-game activities.
To unlock quests, including High Rank ones, you can:
- Find a monster, with each rank (low, high, master) counting separately.
- Capture monsters; low, high, and master rank captures are distinct.
- Speak with Villagers who have a '!' icon in Astera, the Research Base, or Seliana.
- Complete previous Optional quests.
- Encounter randomly available Rare encounters that last for 2 quests and then disappear.
- Fully research monsters by completing all tabs in their monster manual entries.
- Hunt a specific number of different tempered monsters (only the first listed target counts in multi-tempered investigations/quests).
- Advance your current progress level in Assigned Quests.
Master Rank Optional Quests are exclusive to the Iceborne Expansion and provide materials, special tools, and canteen foods, though they are not required for story progression. After preparing, you might embark on an Expedition to the Coral Highlands to track a Tzitzi-Ya-Ku. While fighting it is optional, tracking is necessary. Following this, you will need to hunt and slay a Paolumu to advance the questline. The Coral Highlands can be confusing, so rely on monster tracks to navigate. After defeating monsters like Pukei-Pukei, carve for parts and return to Astera to speak with the Commander to continue the Dragon Hunt and begin the next assigned quest.
