Earning Currencies Efficiently
In Mortal Kombat 11, mastering the art of currency acquisition is paramount for unlocking Krypt chests, purchasing character skins, gear, augments, and consumables. This section will guide you through the most efficient methods to stock up on Koins, Soul Fragments, and Hearts.
Koins: The Universal Currency
Koins are the most common currency and are used for opening standard chests in the Krypt, purchasing items from the Kollection, and some character customizations. While seemingly abundant, spending them wisely is key.
- Tower of Time: This is your primary source for Koins.
- Rapid Towers: Look for Towers that offer "Koin Rewards" as a primary completion bonus. These often refresh quickly and can be farmed repeatedly. Prioritize Towers with modifiers that benefit your main character to ensure quick victories.
- Character Towers: Completing the initial stages of Character Towers for various fighters will grant substantial Koin bonuses. Even if you don't intend to master every character, running through their first few towers is a great investment.
- Gauntlet Towers: While more challenging, the Gauntlet often provides large Koin payouts upon completion of its stages.
- Story Mode: Completing the main Story Mode will net you a significant one-time Koin reward. Replaying chapters, especially those with easy fights, can also yield small amounts.
- Krypt Exploration: As you open chests in the Krypt, you'll frequently find additional Koins. Focus on cheaper chests first to maximize your initial Koin influx, then use those Koins to open more expensive ones.
- Daily & Weekly Challenges: Check your Kombat Kard for daily and weekly objectives. Many of these offer Koin rewards for simple tasks like performing a certain number of Fatal Blows or winning matches with a specific character.
Soul Fragments: For Special Krypt Chests
Soul Fragments are used to open specific, glowing green chests in the Krypt, often containing rare gear, skins, and augments. They are generally harder to come by than Koins.
- Tower of Time:
- Specific Soul Fragment Towers: Keep an eye out for Towers of Time that explicitly list "Soul Fragment Rewards." These are your best bet for consistent farming.
- Boss Fights: Defeating certain boss characters in the Towers of Time, particularly those in the Gauntlet or harder Character Towers, can award a good number of Soul Fragments.
- Krypt Exploration:
- Shao Kahn's Hammer: After acquiring Shao Kahn's Hammer (found early in the Krypt near the Dragon Amulet puzzle), you can smash certain cracked walls and statues. Many of these hidden areas contain Soul Fragments.
- Hidden Chests: Some chests, particularly those requiring specific items like the Blindfold of One Being (found in the Krypt's Lower Courtyard), will contain Soul Fragments. Use the Blindfold to reveal invisible chests.
- Meteor Towers: Occasionally, a "Meteor Tower" will appear in the Towers of Time. These are challenging but offer substantial Soul Fragment rewards upon completion.
- Character Progression: Leveling up your characters and completing their individual Character Tower stages will often grant Soul Fragments as rewards.
Hearts: For Goro's Lair and Special Krypt Interactions
Hearts are the rarest currency and are primarily used for opening the most valuable chests in Goro's Lair within the Krypt, as well as interacting with specific altars and puzzles. These chests often contain unique Brutalities, Fatalities, and high-tier gear.
- Performing Fatalities and Brutalities: This is the most consistent method for earning Hearts.
- Fatalities: Each Fatality performed in any game mode (except practice) grants 1 Heart.
- Brutalities: Each Brutality performed in any game mode (except practice) grants 1 Heart.
- Strategy: Focus on mastering at least one easy Fatality and Brutality for your main character. Play through Klassic Towers on Very Easy difficulty and consistently finish opponents with these moves. This is a highly repeatable and efficient farming method.
- Tower of Time:
- Boss Fights: Defeating specific bosses in the Towers of Time, especially those in the Gauntlet or Event Towers, can sometimes award a small number of Hearts.
- Event Towers: Keep an eye out for limited-time Event Towers that specifically list Hearts as a reward. These are often the most lucrative sources outside of Fatalities/Brutalities.
- Krypt Exploration:
- Sacrificial Altar: In Goro's Lair, there's a Sacrificial Altar where you can offer specific heads (obtained by performing 10 Fatalities on each character in Klassic Towers). Offering a head grants a significant Heart reward.
- Shrine: The Shrine in the Krypt (near the starting area) can sometimes award Hearts when you offer Koins, though this is less reliable and more expensive than other methods.
